It happens once in a while to people but usually they're in hotter climates. My 5D is going on 3 years old with no problems and over 16k clicks.

I have heard that the problems with the mirrors "falling out" have been with locations that have very high humidity.
The adhesive that Canon uses fails under this occasion.
I think Canon knows about this problem, but the only way to be sure would be to call them directly.
I have had my 5D since they were released, and have had no problems. The humidity in Montana usually is quite low, though, usually from 15% to 60%.

it seems that the 5D mirror can have problems in warm, humid weather.

I think out of all the cameras in Canons aresenal, the 5d has the most loyal cult like following. Its a great camera, cant go wrong even if a few parts fall off on a rare sample of cameras. :-p

Plenty of info here.
Seems to affect people in high humidity areas as Leethal has stated.
Shouldn't be a problem in Spain though, where to OP is from.

You would think that Canon would just use the same techniques for manufacturing their cameras as other solidly built cams.....I have a 3 year old 20D which has seen daily use in the field and studio and I have never had issues with it...............couldnt Canon just use the same glue they used in the 20D ?

I personally only know 2 guys with 5D's, and both had no mirror fall off. Small sample size, I know, but it seems like not an issue. I'm one of them owning one.

I personally know not any guys who own the 5D. Therefore, I can not say about their mirror falling off or not. That is a very small sample size indeed, yet I keep keeping a watchful eye just in case.

No problems with my 5D mirror at all. I hadn't even heard about the problem until reading this thread.

Mine has been from Alaska to Hawaii and no problems. Focusing screens are another thing. they are interchangable and there is a tool to put them in and out without scratching them.

Add me to the list of owners. MY 5D mirror fell off while on a shoot in Costa Rica this past week. I'm so pissed because I have an underwater housing for the 5D only and now I don't have a 5D. Anyone tried supergluing themselves?

I've heard it costs like $200 to get this fixed for a problem Canon knows it has but won't admit to.

Hassy501 superglued his on. I'd be worried about the fumes from the glue affecting the sensor cover glass.

Have owned a 5D sence it`s release.....live on an Island where it is in the 80` and 90`s for more then half the year. Salty humid air all the time and my 5D is always with me....some times locked up in a hot car, sometimes taking shots in storms which I love to shoot. Never a problem...but some dust spots. Buy one and don`t worry...a great camera..........hmmmmm...I better go knock on a lot of wood
