Here are a couple of bittern shots that absolutely surprised me, so much so I had to BACK UP to get them in focus! They are from Ridgefield NWR in WA. I had a wonderful day there, the light was not the best but the birdies did not let me down.
Very nice shots, Tim. Lighting and detail are super. I really like the second shot, with the beautiful setting and fine composition. The raccons shot is very cute. Especially the one looking from the tree hole to the point that it may deserve a tight crop just for him.

Thank you for the kind words Socrate. I almost didn't post the raccoons, the photo is not that good so I didn't want to put much effort in it. I agree with your crop idea, I should have done that. Maybe I will when I get home tonight.
Such a great natural shot of the bittern. Caught him off guard and he froze to try to camo himself. That is a beautiful shot #2 caught perfectly in his own environment.
Cute little bandit in the tree!

Karl, you nailed the behaivour! That is exactly what happened as you would expect. Thanks for the kind words, the raccoons were fun to watch!
Tim, that's a very cute Raccoon image, but the Bittern images are fantastic. I saw one in Ridgefield last year and that was the last one I've seen. You did good.
