Martha's Courtyard, Old Town San Diego, California
I was down in San Diego taking pictures last weekend, and happened upon the most amazing store. This little place has tons of small little crafts, plants, etc.
While my significant other shopped around for things, I stopped at this array of succulents, slightly positioned my favorite in front of the others, got my 50mm wide open, and took a series of shots at different angles.
Here is my favorite taken vertically. At f/1.8, the DOF was a bit shallow, may have worked better at f/2.
Looks way better, but those little rocks are still a little distracting to me..Maybe it's just me, but my eyes are still fading away from loooking at the subject in the picture.
how would you feel (come on... let's talk about feeling now!) about having the 2nd or 3rd row of those little pots in focus to give you some foreground depth? Other than that... it's a very nice pic of a succulent army!
I think f/1.8 was all you needed there - the first pot seems fully inside the DOF and the rest fade quickly. The bokeh could perhaps be a bit nicer - the backgrounds look a bit splotchy - but that's only if I have to say something "critical." I like the shot overall - quite a bit. Good eye.
