I looking at a MKIII to buy, with the serial # 527043. Does anyone know if this is a pre "sub-mirror fix" unit?

From the Canon website:

Cameras manufactured with an updated mirror mechanism. These cameras can be identified by serial numbers higher than 546561, as well as serial numbers on the attached list. EOS-1D Mark III cameras manufactured with an updated mirror mechanism do not need to be repaired for the AF Mirror Adjustment issue.
