p.1 #1 · #281: Blowing in the Wind

Earlier today we had 40 mph winds gusting to 65 mph and now it has turned into a dilly of a storm. I got a shot of this tree from my backyard -- didn't dare to venture any further; all the roads are closed around here. Comments and critiques are much appreciated.

Good Capture, I will play with the levels, looks a little beat washed. I know is normal for this kind of pictures.

Good luck

Hi Saul,

Thanks for the advise. All the blowing snow had washed it out a bit and it did need some correction. Thanks for the advice.

Best wishes,

Steve S.

This picture is great for this week’s assignment Steve!
I also like the tight composition that emphasizes the effect of the wind on the treetops…

I'm certainly seeing wind in the image Steve. Nice capture of it.
I'm also picking up some dust on your sensor on my rather bright moniter, especially on the left side.

Nice simple take on the WA

This certainly capture the wind, Steve, but I agree about the sensor dust. Somehow, the cropping seems a bit static to me. Maybe if you ofset the tree to the left and gave it some room to blow into the right of the frame. I' don't know for sure, but that might help. Overall, though, it's a fine capture!

All the best,

Endre

Hi Peter,

Thanks for pointing out the dust. I was working on my laptop as I was snowed in and just got to my regular monitor this morning. Looks like I need a sensor shovel and not just a brush. I appreciate your kind words as well.

Best wishes,

Steve S.

Hi Endre,

Thanks for your advice about the cropping. I agree I should have given more room on the left and I have not only removed the dust but added this extra room as well. I like it better that way. Thanks also for your kind words.

Best wishes,

Steve S.

Steve, this reminds me of a hurricane! I've only been through two of them, one at the coast and the other (Hugo) that made it 200+ miles inland. I can still hear that wind howl and it sends chills up my spine every time. Well done.

Steve: I wonder about cropping just a little more off the bottom, so that the partial needles at the bottom right don't appear. Then it might convey more of a sense of being blown to the right. Nonetheless, it's a great capture; I can almost feel the wind. Best of luck.

Steve,

You caught it. WIND! Nicely done. The day looks cold and gray. Kind of lonely. Good luck this week.

Hi Louis,

Thanks so much for the kinds words. We had a howling wind this weekend, but I can't imagine living through a hurricane. It must have been quite an ordeal. My heart goes out to all who have experienced this terror over the last few years.

Best wishes,

Steve S.
