p.1 #1 · STOP stealing others artwork!

I have come across this multiple times on this board... the STEALING of others art. Please stop pirating other artists photos, tweaking them in Photoshop or Painter, then posting them as if they were your own. Others have spent time, talent and effort on THEIR creation, and in most cases, not for you to use without fair compensation. Go buy your own camera and take your OWN pictures if you feel the need to push pixels around your monitor!

This simply illustrates your lack of talent or the pure laziness you have. This really sticks in my craw because it has happened to me before on a few occasions. Now, I feel the need to call people out when I see it... sorry if you don't agree.

Here are a couple recent incidents...

RodBarker has taken photos from other photographers to form a "smudge" painting without getting approval from the copyright holder. Then people comment on how amazed they are at HIS creations. They are NOT his creations. It is stolen artwork Rod uses to smear pixels. Rod, you have said that people have to "learn to see and understand art before they can create it". I suggest you stop stealing and start creating.

The real artists in this situation is Phillip at Keepsake. You can check out his wonderful work here...

JSDILL has also felt the need to steal an artists photo, push some pixels around, title it, then post it online as if it was HIS art. I am shocked and disgusted by this behavior from someone who thinks of himself as an artist. Would it be ok for me to take the writings from your "Court of Leaves" series, change a few words, then post them online as if they were my own? Then have the nerve to ask for comments from others. How do we know what you've really created and what you've actually stolen?

Here is Norman Jean Roy's (the real artist) portfolio. Check out her wonderful work here...

I agree with Kevin. I am surprised about Jordan, but I'm not at all surprised at others. Lyle does it all the time. He used to say that he had permission, but he doesn't even give the original photographer credit anymore.

How would these guys like it if we ripped them off

I always give credits when I use other forum images; when I use photos from the Free Photo Index (site encourages play with their images), I link the original. Don't tell me that I don't give credit Osai. Normally I would PM you, but your comments are in the public arena, so my response will be the same.

Hmmmm , where to begin !

First of all I dont like being called a thief and I guarentee you that you would not call me one to my face so please try and reframe from it here when you only know half a story.

What I have done is completely legal and is open for argument , it is the grey area of copywrite that falls somewhere in the middle of fair use and freedom of speech and freedom of artistic interpretation , with the digital age the courts are finding out what artists have always known , the creative process of any art piece in history was a stolen idea or resource and passed under the hand and mind of the artist to emerge as a unique creation of its own , Tiger Woods lost a copywrite court case on this very issue concerning a smudge painting that was mass produced and sold , he lost because the finished article was deemed an art piece of its own .

What art work did I steal , what percent of the finished composition is yours
what percent is mine ? and where is the transformation from one to the other occur

Is my end resulting art piece carried by your small part of the whole ?
Or is the end resulting image carried by its own merit as a piece of art and is therefor a legal entity of its own standing ?

I understand your claim that I just smear pixels is ment to be belittling , but if you would like to do what I do just to show everybody how easy and common it is Im all eyes .

The piece in question was an art exercise in lighting and learning , when I do an image like this its low res never sold or printed , its just a no gain excise in art , I never tried to hide anything like a thief surely would , I showed what bricks I used in building the house I had in mind and it was a fun exercise not a profit making one .

You make this sound like Im selling close up calenders of your friends image at the local market ,,,,,

This is how my artpiece in question came about , when Im bored I will play a little game where I do crazy random word searches for images in google and quickly flick through the thumbnails and select a group of random images that caught my eye then I get my daughter to pick a group out of them , then I will try and build something out of them , most get thrown in the doodle bin some like Dog The Bounty Hunter I post on this board for the sake of art , its not about ripping anybody off no body is selling anything here .

When I sell an image it is a framed comissioned portrait that I photograph , these are what I have posted 99.9% of the time on the board , Im surprised that some people are brought to tears over something thats just a smeary photograph .

I will continue to do what I do and I consider myself an artist , I know when my work is not enough developed by my mind and my hand , I know that I can use an unknown random little boy in boots or a garden gnome in its place and still create an art piece that the end result is my creation , everything in this world is derived from something , the point is when does the clay become a brick become a house , my art is never a mere copy of somebodys elses work , and I will glady champion that point anywhere you like , you can tell the judge Im a thief and I will show the judge Im an artist !

Your friend takes great photographs Im glad you posted his gallery which I havent seen before , very nice work .

Before I fininsh , somebody asked how would I like my stuff being used by others , go for it I would be happy for you to create art out of anything Ive had a hand in , just make it stand on its own and be off good taste and you wont here peep out of me , on the contrary I will be flattered to be chosen to be part of the process .

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and smells like a duck....

Well you get my drift. I have no problem calling you a theif. A lazy one at that.

ROD, remove "MY" image from your collage. You never asked permission to use it. I have no clue who you are, neither do I care.

If you want to be creative, then pick up a camera, and shoot and stop free loading off the eye of others.

I'm emailing the admin of FM to remove that thread of yours where you have MY image used WITHOUT permission.

Nuff said.

You could have asked me to remove the percent you claim is yours and it would not have been a problem or even just announce yourself before you buddy shoots his mouth off , it was just a fun image of random images , like I said I didnt now you to ask permission maybe you should not post your images in a such free public place without notice on them, maybe if I didnt show what I used you wouldnt even know , I will remove your claimed section and replace it with a garden gnome just to see if the if there is any art in the image that your not carrying .

I take lots of photos , just that art and painting is my passion not photography , Im sure I can get closer to what you call art than you can to what I call art and we will see who is lazy , so lay of with the high and mighty crap , was no harm done and it was just a fun image if you feel real strong about making a big deal over it , sue me !

Rod, talk all you want around the subject at had.

Stealing !

Plain and simple. I did ask you to remove MY image. I don't care what you do with the other images.

Hey ROD, please do show me, in FULL CONTEXT where that little boy's image came from, that you just happened across? Please do !

BTW, here is the link to the Original Image. Which happens to be the one I shot.... Here is my image which can be found on my site as well. ... .http://keepsakephotography.us/Portrait82.jpg

Like I said earlier, if you want to create art, then pick up a pencil, crayon, chalk, ink, or what ever medium, and create. Stop stealing others work.

I'm not going to waste anymore of my time with you. I'll let the site ADMIN take care of it.

You asked me just now and I did , could have saved everyone some grief if thats all your beef was , if you want to argue the legistics Im all for it if you want ,,, I posted the shots I used dont try and make out I didnt and that I tried to hide what I used , annnoucing something seems like a funny way to steal something dont you think , your choice of words have a tone that dont apply in the way you would like them to apply , I might have used a part of your image as a part of my image in a Photo illustration art forum , but stealing , sit on a pineapple mate your a bit anal .

Did you ask the guy who stamped the box for permission to use his work , legally you should have .

I will be locking this thread. There is a copyright gray area that should be respected, as least here in FM, especially when the photo owner have requested so many times. If you would like, please continue this discussion via PM.
Thanks for your cooperation!
