Don't like my Qflash, I LOVE it!!!!

It's a great flash: powerful, lightweight, with an amazing kind of light.

Check aut Quantum's Qflash academy:

http://www.qtm.com/?res_set=yes&res=1280&resh=1200

I use a T5d-R and three T2 flashes. T2 with Pocket Wizards and manual exposure, T5d-R with Qnexus (full wireless infrared TTL!!!) or FreeXwire (full wireless radio TTL) - when my TTL module should have been upgraded by the german Quantum distributor ...

Simply awesome... As I just mentioned in another thread about lighting formals, the Qflashes really take my portraiture to the next level. Here's a few shots of my setups etc:

All packed up, one simple kit:

Here it is Mike:

It just fits these Manfrotto 3361 stands:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/5590-REG/Bogen_Manfrotto_052B_3361_Black_Light_Stand.html

So it's basically an entire high end lighting kit in a shoulder bag...

Hey Chris,

Since you are in a helping mode, I'd love to know about these Norman octo umbrella boxes you have attached to your Q's. Thanks in advance, Freddy

Sure Freddy, here they are. Normans and Quantums (and Lumedynes) share the same adapter/connector/speedring thing, so these simply snap into the Qflash heads. And they are super easy to set up, much moreso than a regular softbox. They go up like an umbrella, and with the speedring/conector built in, means they can be deployed in seconds. Great for wedding photography!

You're welcome Mike. The downside to that bag is the clips that hold the straps. They are plastic and don't take a great load. I tried to put small sandbags in the kit once, and they snapped. I wouldn't trust them with larger battery packs, only small ones like the Quantum Turbos etc...

Hi everyone,

I'd love to get the qflash setup but at the moment I'm investing into glass and bodies.

My current setup has 2 580EX's, so my question is:

Is there an adapter to fit the Norman Octagonal Softbox for Norman 2-series battery powered Flash Heads - 19" Diameter?

Or does anyone recommend a less expensive kit that matches the 580ex's? Qflash is on my list, but I want to work with what I have for the moment until more weddings start coming in. Thanks in advance.

I love my Qflashes, but I decided a long time ago to stick with he original Qflash T2 series. They are really cheap to buy (about $200-250) and are workhorses. I have three of them and use them for all sorts of photo shoots.

These were all shot with Qflashes

Dragonfly,

Neat shots, and the T2's at that price are VERY affordable. Should I trade my 580EX's?

Can we see your setup at the studio? Thanks!

I'll look for a couple of "set up" photos, but I don't have a studio. I shoot everything on location. (Backdrops are usually collapsible, and the Qflashes pack up very small).

I still keep SB-600 flashes, because there are times (mostly during weddings) when I just want to hold a light flash over my head and get a photo quick. Normally, I'll have a SB-600 on a light stick (I make them from broken light stands) and I can extend out the flash six or seven feet).

Here is a Qflash on a light stand from a long time ago (notice I keep the flash on a wireless remote so i can walk away from it quickly.)

The Qflashes are for formals, portraits or commercial work.

On that note, however, I still have two Alien Bees when I need big softboxes. Not every lighting situation can be done by those little Norman softboxes or Quantum modifiers on the Qflash.
