I’m still playing around this idea so it might change.

C&C welcome

I understand the needle phobia, but I cannot tell what it is over. Blood is a lot more opaque, if that is what the red stuff is. It could be adriamycin (a red chemotherapy agent), which scares me.

I wanted the focus on the needle point so I used a shallow DoF and its sitting on a glass ashtray turned upside down. The fake blood in from Halloween and I’m working on the opacity of it. Here is another view.

BTW: My daughter likes this view better.

The first shot seems more threatening, once the entire needle is in perspective you can tell by point of reference that it's quite small. Not sure of the ashtray idea. Perhaps a shot over a patch of freshly "bruised" skin with only the needle and skin patch in focus.
Also, try mixing the blood with Karo syrup or a little peanut butter to thicken it a bit. The color is good but blood is thicker and not translucent.

It's a great shot and concept. Good luck.

The red stuff does look like idarubicin (chemotherapy) and I know that my husband would hate this picture because he was on idarubicin last year. Either way I think for some people this would definitely invoke thoughts of hate. I like the first shot better than the second.

Yes, very nice take on the subject. The first picture evokes more emotion I think. Everything warped and fuzzy! Nice! Best take on the subject so far, IMO.

Thank you and I liked the blurred one more as well!

I had some time to mess with this idea a little more, but this is more of a Pleasure or Pain concept. I used the empty vaccine bottles and needles from my new kitten’s inoculations.

Your first pic is best IMHO. We all hate needles to some extent unless you're a masochist. Think about those diabetics who have to face the needle on a daily basis (my son does).

Thanks Bill. I just cringed every time I gave blood and I still vividly remember the air guns used in the military and how it cut the arms of some of the recruits. My mom also took insulin injections as well and I'm working on avoiding them. As well as living in the city about a block from a needle exchange program and knowing how they can change a life.

The Good Bad and Ugly I guess

Not a masochist but I freaking love needles in a medical setting. Without them my diabetic patients, code blue patients, hypertensive patients, etc would all be dead. Needles save lives.

I do hate them on the other hand when I work with detox patients and see what they have allowed to enter into these soul's arms and destroy their lives.
