p.1 #1 · Best place to host photos?

Whats the best place (or your favorite place rather) to host photos? I've tried photobucket, and the quality/functionality really isnt all there. Myspace, I like the functionality, but the quality of the images are horrible. Tried Flickr, quality is superb, but it just feels too 'slow' and somewhat unorganized. So im just wondering what do you prefer for your image hosting? I've seen alot of people using Flickr, but I just cant get used to it. Im really lookin for something that has great organization and superb image quality

p.s.
Im not looking to sell my photos, as I doubt anyone would want them. Its gonna be more for family and friends.

maybe it's the time for you to get a paid web hosting and install your own photo gallery scripts.

thats what Im thinking. I got an email from 'therock' and was telling me about it, I've always been tempted. I do have pretty good knowledge on webdesign and I've always wanted my own site, hmm... what to name it is the real issue here.

Use it as well as my website. The good thing about a hosting site is that you get lots of viewers, comments, suggestions, and people wanting the photos for paid work.

Another Smugmug recommendation. BTW, if you subscribe, contact one of us current SM users, we can give you a discount code (yes, it goes both ways).

The question you're asking is more like "How long as a piece of string?" You do not say if you want professoinal features and appearance or simple casual photographer, family sharing type of presence. The differences are many.

For quick and simple hosting, I usually just upload to my Xanga account. Its really easy to use and I can just link the pictures where ever I want (usually here).

For my website, I use .Mac and just update with iWeb.

I like imageevent (www.imageevent.com). Reletively inexpensive ($25/year iirc) and they don't measure by storage amount, but by images. That is, you get 1500 images stored for $25 a year. When you outgrow that, you can buy another 1500 image capability for a *one time* fee of $25....they also guarantee your images will be there as long as you maintain your account.

They also have professional accounts, don't know much about them.

good shooting,
Andy

If its just for hosting, picasaweb.google.com is hard to beat. They give you 1GB for free and the slideshow feature works great.

I use both picasaweb and pbase. Pbase is nice, but pretty slow. They may have improved it lately though.

If you sell the shots, I love ExposureManager.com I use to use printroom but the speed and thumb nail quality was not that good. If you want to take a look here you go. If you don't plan on selling I would say do your own mine works well that way.

Personally, I am interested in this thread as well.
I would like to find a reasonably priced site to host photos, enable sales (either with printing established thru the site or request easily sent to me), and that can accomodate Lightroom's ability to set up a flash gallery. I have yet to learn how I can host the galleries I can create in LR.
Additonal thoughts?
Thx

If you can type know some HTML there are many low cost web hosting companies the will setup and maintain a Web server for you. Many have tools to help you create your site provide services and functions like a order basket database software feedback etc. Having your own server give you freedom. You cam also upload large files of any type and data data you don't want public and mail URL to the interested parties the non public data can also be encrypted for more security. I have a basic package fro IXhosting no shopping cart or database cost about $60 a year for 5BG disk space and a 2GB monthly network traffic allowance. Other plans have databases and shopping cart facilities...
