This is the first time I have seen this bird at SJWS in Southern California. Not sure when was the last sighting but apparently, this bird has been hanging around the area for almost 2 weeks. It has some gorgeous colors...Enjoy.
All taken with D50 and 200-400 VR at 1/30 and 1/40 handheld.
Beautiful shots! I saw this bird the other day while I was there but was only able to chase it around the shadows. Ran into some very aggressive other photographers that walked right through the middle of my shot of a flock of feeding waxwings to try and take some shots of this bird as well.

holy smokes. that little guy is practically glowing! what a great find. where at sjws did you spot it? awesome shots too. looks like you are back to using your d50. happy new years from my family to yours.
Thang -
Great looking shots. Actually amazing, since I know the lighting condition you were shooting under. You and that 200-400 VR is a lethal combination. And to think that all of this was achieved at speeds of 1/30-1/40s handheld! A good number of my shots ended up as throw-aways. simply awsome!

Thang, Beautiful shots with great lighting. I think this is the Golden Palm Weaver. Not sure what he is doing there in CA. I have seen them in East Africa but don't have any images of one that I can remember.
Thang, Even if the bird was B&W you could squeeze a rainbow of colors out of it. So, no surprise here either. Georgeous colors, and #3 is a sweet shot.

Jon - yeah, I heard about the waxwing through fwyflyr from Mr. zoom. Sorry about the aggressiveness from other photographers. Given the location these birds were in, it would be difficult not to disturb them.
Mr. Zoom - thanks. Was lucky enough to run into one of the birders. Otherwise, I wouldn't have gotten these shots.
Hung - sent you an email last night about the location of the bird. You can ask any of the Audubon folks and they can point you to the location. Yes, I am using my D50 for its excellent high ISO handling. Happy New Year to you and your family as well.
Maggie, Ted, Jim, Doug, Dave, Jason, Rob, and all - thanks!
Grant and Webzeal - Using fwyflyr's line, I will be the first to tell you that I am not a birder. I am a photographer. Not exactly sure the species of this bird. Just go with what the Audubon folks told me.
Bruce - your comment is too funny. I will try that next time with a B&W bird.
