My intuition seems to be correct, the R1 looks very cool, but not for me personally. The R5II has a pleathora of new features that make a wonderful tool even better. One reviewer said that the II is a highly polished up version of the R5 and I think that accurately describes it. The ability to shoot 8K with new internal batteries is just one of the features, and eye controlled focus that exceeds the performance of the R3 is another.

Hi Jim,
I was just looking at the features of both cameras at the B&H site and they both have this upscaling feature, which I believe is new. I'd be interested in your take on that once you receive your R5 II and whether it actually works with respect to IQ you could sell a client. This may make the R1 more attractive to those disappointed by the lower MP count of that camera.

Thanks,
Gero

Thanks Douglas. Yes the R5II is nicely priced and will save me money with just adapters for my Canon lenses.

Looking forward to your air show and redwoods photography. Are you home yet? Hope not! It is MISERABLE here!
Thanks!
Dan

Hi Dan, I am at LAX waiting for my red eye fight back to Maryland. I didn't get to go up to Redwood NP as planned, just didn't have enough time. Did go up to Humbolt (?) State Park, they got some redwood there too. I think my landscape shooting this trip was mostly a bust due to the weather.

Good Morning Gerov,

I saw that feature, like you, I'm a bit skeptical but we'll see. They have had the one where you can increase the size of the file on a stationary image (never tried it), but this is something new. I'll let you know my impression one I get my hands on it.

Or as the tv commercial depicts Rob.... with that "sectional-put together sofa", adults with a glass of red wine going airborne!

I drove to Mono Lake near Yosemite on Sunday night after the show in Sacramento, got there at 3:00AM , woke up in my car at 5:00 to shoot the sunrise. The trail I took ended very far away from the tufa, I didn't see the typical view of the tufa formations. I looked at google map today and realized I pulled into the wrong parking lot along the lake, which is 12 miles from the parking lot where I should have been.

Anyway, here are some infrared pix from my recent quick stop.

Very nice Douglas! I'd be interested to understand how you processed the IR conversions.

Thank you very much, Ray! Yosemite looks very nice in B&W, IMHO.

Thank you Gero! I had a 850nm IR conversion done to my camera, the files come out black and white already, I just need to make some adjustments like contrast, shadow, highlight, dehazing...I know some folks have different IR filters or different conversion, then play around with color channels. I don't have the Photoshop skill to mess around with the channel stuff. I prefer the B&W look anyway, so I had a 850nm conversion done. I really enjoy shooting the IR camera, even though I don't get to use it often.

Golden Night's Army Parachute Team -
.
And those worried about the sky, first one with blue sky was last night, no edit.
The rest were today at 10:00 am, dull, a little smoky and HOT yukky skies so had to edit those.
