Ok, after some thought and opinions on the coin entry, I decided to go with something more festive and definitely from the top. I was at the local park with my son and all these ducks came straight up to us very quickly. I had no time for anything but to pull the camera out, quickly look and snap! I wasn't able to get the entire head because I had the wrong lens, but still got off a decent one. Hope you like better...Opinions?

Nice shot Steve, tack sharp. ...But... I think I prefer the coin shot.

Cheers,
Jason

Hi Steve,

This is an interesting shot, and that duck looks almost reptilian which is sorta cool, but I agree with Jason and I think I liked the coin shot better.

I'd like to see the entire head... and would like the bill to be in focus... BUT, I like this one better than the coin shot. (The coin shot lacked interest IMHO.)
Good luck Steve!

Ditto on what Carrol said. I know how hard it is to shoot these guys in focus though, they don't hold still, and even Al Servo focus doesn't always help. Cute subject!

Carrol, I wish I could have gotten the entire head, but just didn't happen. There was something about the coin shot that I couldn't get around, not to mention how many views and lack of post, so I took a chance...I am going to stick with this one. Its not like I make many finals anyhow

Bev. I was thinking about you with this shot. I know how well you do with these sort of things and I hope I stayed in the ball park. This was definitely a point and shoot, so for that matter, I think it turned out well all considering. Thanks and appreciate you viewing.

This is a much more interesting shot than the coin one, Steve! I know how difficult it is to capture something like this and, while it may not be the most perfect shot in the world, it certainly is a really fine capture. What's most important is that the eye is in focus and that you did perfectly!

All best wishes,

Endre

Thanks Endre. I was thinking of you from your last comment on the coin shot. Something didn't pop and your were right, so instead of fighting it, I though I would find something more interesting and it was a really fast shot to capture and the eyes were the key focal point. Glad you like.

Way more interesting! The crop is great too; makes me feel very close.
Nice colour, and sharpness is on the eyes, where it belongs.

Hi Steve, my friend! I saw the coins earlier, but didn't have a chance to post, and I have to admit, this one is more interesting. He's an ugly guy, but you captured an image few people would be able to, and the sharp focus on the eye is perfect. Makes him look right back at the viewer without flinching! Super job....despite your attempts at sounding humble. Just kiddin'!

(He's still one ugly duck!)

Steve,
Man, at first I thought this was a shot of a porcelain figurine! Then I took a closer look and read your caption to discover this is a real live duck! That is one scary looking critter and I know they can bite like the dickens. Excellent capture and very interesting to say the least.

Philly, he sure is pretty ugly, remarkable in a ugly/weird way.......I literally had about 2 seconds to point and shoot and the only thing I could see was him STARING IN MY FACE, so the eye was it. He literally was a lean forward and shoot distance away! Glad you like it and I am glad I switched. I always appreciate your comments darling

Wow, hand held, small depth of field, moving subject and you nailed the focus right on the eyes. What a great shot!

Hi Steve,
I am relatively new here but have been made to feel at home by many of the fine members who kindly respond and offer support and direction. Thank you for introducing yourself and extending a welcome. I hope it was not too presumptious of me to be so familiar with my responses to you as it was not intended to be disrespectful but to acknowledge my desire to fit in with the culture and norms of this forum.
Trent
PS - I like the first submittal better than the white duck because of the multi-color features and it fits the assignment better IMHO.

Hey Trent, no harm done. I never even thought of it in any disrespectful way. I completely welcome you to me and me to you!! Its like a big bunch of friends up here. I had to do the same a while back, so glad to meet you once again. The white duck is not the entry by the way.......maybe I should delete it to stop the confusion. It is just another shot I took that day with the female duck that was close to the first one I took. Thanks
