p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Monitor calibration tool question!

Hi guys!
I assume this one was asked tons of times, but after going back some pages ive got more confused, which monitor calibration tool to choose.
I am using Dell 2407 WFP...
I know i comes pretty calibrated, but not enough for the photography pp,
I dont know what is the difference, or which one is better to get:
#1
Xrite Eye-One Display 2 Colorimeter Monitor Profile Solution
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/465156-REG/Xrite_EODIS2_Eye_One_Display_2.html

#2
ColorVision SPYDER 3 ELITE
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/525541-REG/ColorVision_S3EL100_SPYDER_3_ELITE.html

#3
Or Spider 2 which is half of the price, what is the difference between Spider 2 to 3

#4
There are some really cheap solutions, like:

Pantone Huey Colorimeter Monitor Profile Solution
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/419940-REG/Pantone_MEU101_Huey_Colorimeter.html

are they as good as the options 1 and 2

Thank you for your help!!!

FWIW I started out on calibration with a Spyder and hated it, sold it 2 months later and got the Gretag Macbeth (aka X-Rite) Eye 1 Display 2. Calibration is now quick, easy and accurate. My only advice would be buy once, buy right, buy X-rite! Hey X-Rite all rights reserved on my slogan!

I would go with the Datacolor Spyder 3 Elite. It has a larger sensor than any of the other monitor calibrators on the market, it is also the only calibrator to have seven color detection, and dedicated calibration for CRT, LCD, Laptops and Projectors.

I have had mine for just over a week and it works flawlessly. I have used Spyder products for over 5 years and the Spyder 3 has the latest technological advances including a full time ambient light detector. The eye one product is over three years old.

I made my decision for eye one display II since I can't take more negative comments on spyder products even it is still considered one of the most competitive calibrators in the market.

Hey,Jerryrock, do you know when eye one display II came out? I think you were talking about eye one display LT is over 3 years old?

The Xrite DTP94 puck is still one of the best around. I use it with my Eizo CG241s and it does a much better job than the Spyder2 puck. I haven't tried the Spyder3 puck yet and don't know if it is supported by the ColorNavigation software yet. The colorimeter, also called a puck, is key to a good calibration.

The new Eye One Display colorimeter is a new development by Xrite and Gretag and is supposed to be very good.

In any case, I would skip the Pantone Huey, haven't heard any good reviews of it, mostly not good.

Integrated Color Corp. acknowledges the demise of the Xrite DTP94 (discontinued) and recommends the Spyder product:

No demise, Xrite bought Gretag and they had to merge products, simultaneously creating new markets, so the new puck is basically the DTP94 in new clothes with ambient light measurement. Xrite is continuing to support the DTP94 and have come out with a new USB driver for XP, Vista 32 and 64, so it has future for anybody who has it. There are a number of companies who have a stock of them and will continue to sell them. The Eizo CE calibration software, ColorNavigator supports the different versions of the DTP94, Spyder2 and both Eye One pucks. Having tried all three with my CG241s one after the other, the DTP94 was the best by a visible and numerical margin.

I don't know what the issue here is, but Moncaco Xrite XR Pro, software and hardware are just as valid today as whey were when they came out in 2004. Spyder2 Pro, Spyder3 and Eye One Display 2 are all products good enough to do the job for just about everybody but the pixelpeeepers.

I too started with the original spyder...oops, I am showing my age...however, I have since moved to the Gretag iOne display II and I have been very pleased with it.

I too have heard that the X-rite DTP94 is suppose to be a star. Though my iOne has served me well, if I were to get anything it would be to get a real specto...meter as oppose to these colormeters

I started with the original Spyder I and sold it for the X-Rite XR Pro.
Now I bought the ColorEyes Display Pro Software and I like it very much!

I bought the 94 hockpuck and German Software after a cheap Spyder failed. "Basic Color Display" calibrates my 5 monitors with no problems.
