News for fast primes aficionados. Cosina lunch in F and KA mounts "Ultron" 40/2 SL II Aspherical and apparently re-issue "Nocton" 58/1.4 SL II. More info and links here

Excellent. Thanks for the information. I'm looking for a 75mm f/2.5 SL Color Heliar. F-mount would be fine. I can wait...
P.S. Stephen Gandy's Camera Quest has new 125/2.5 APO-Lanthar Macros in Pentax-K and Olympus OM mounts for $729, so $500 for an OM might not be too bad. The Voigtlanders are all manual through & through, so I don't you'll ever see one with auto-aperture for EOS.

I wonder what the name of the lens really means:
"Voigtländer 40mmF2 SLII" - Does it mean that they have redesigned the old Ultron 40/2 to a version II? The big question is of course if they have managed to make a lens with decent bokeh this time.
They are a bit strange over at Cosina. In KA-mount this lens will meet some competition from the classic Pentax 43/1.9 Limited as well as from the Pancake Pentax 40/2.8. Slower but with AF and optically better than the old Ultron 40/2 in my opinion.
The 58mm is a lens I'm not familiar with at all. I notice this one also is called version two. Is there anyone knowing anything about this lens with regards to resolution, microcontrast and bokeh?

Logically, thats what one would expect but amazingly for the EOS mount, Cosina added the electronic active connections to a few of the SL lenses so the EOS versions do have auto aperture. They are of course still manual focus.
Here's a quote from this review of the EOS version:
"As mentioned above the coupling to the camera is fully integrated with a native EF (EOS) mount and the usual electronics (reads: it has an electronic aperture). "
I have seen the EOS version sell as new on ebay for around $800 or so. Automatic stop down aperture and open aperture metering controlled by the camera would be quite nice for such a beautifully built manual lens.
I had a chance to buy the EOS version about 8 months ago for $550. Should have jumped on it. Oh well, here's hoping they introduce a "II" version of it in EOS mount and satisfies some of that demand that drove the prices up. I could certainly use the other mount versions, but electronic aperture control would be a huge "nice-to-have", as Tariq said.
I picked up the new 40/2 SLII yesterday in Seoul from the first dealer in South Korea to have it in stock.... it is GREAT! Adorable on the FE2, feels fantastic- didn't realize the focus ring is basically a rubberband haha.
