A photo of my daughter, Csilla, and her pet Giraffe - George.

OK, my friends. You were right, as usual. Here's the reshoot incorporatoing your kind suggestions. Morning light, as opposed to late afternoon.

Hello Endre! Csilla's profile drew me from the thumbnails.
George is strikingly set against the background. I wonder if you might want to try a reshoot for one reason. I know that Csilla is looking at George, but I want to see a bit of her eyes. For one thing, I know that they are beautiful, but that's not the only reason. The eye contact between the figurine and the real person makes the photo. Just a slightly different angle, with the giraffe an inch or so higher and maybe a half inch toward us, her lashes a little higher, and the light getting into her eyes...that would transform a cute photo into a great one, I suspect.

Love the reshoot!

Nicely shot Endre and a great take on the assignment. It does seem that the giraffe may be so close to Csilla's face she may have to cross her eyes to see him...I know I would but my eyesight isn't what it used to be...but again, well done!

I love it when you include your gorgeous children in your images, Endre, my friend!

I agree with Jess, though, and think you need to show more of her eyes, and raise the giraffe just a bit. Great job highlighting the animal against the background!

As always, an excellent entry, either way.

Thanks so much, Jess, my friend! It took all sorts of tries to get the lighting like this. There were several shots with her eyes more open but not lit as well, or something was out of focus, etc. We may try shooting it again tomorrow, but I wanted to make sure that the subject was the little giraffe and not Csilla. She's there to add perspective and some interest bu not the focus of the photo. Anyway, I'm very glad you like it.

Fond regards,

Endre

Thanks, Tom. I appreciate your comments and am glad you like it. That was, indeed one of the problems in shooting it - Csilla's eyes would cross and it made her uncomfortable and consequently the shots looked awful. :worried:

Fond regards.

Endre

Thanks so much, Philly! I shamelessly try to hedge my bets by photographing my kids whenever possible. This little Giraffe has an interesting story - one of Csilla's longtime homeschooling friends made it for her out of clay. He makes all sorts of such things (dragons, warriors on horses, etc.) but this one was his best. Now that he's older, he's sweet on Csilla but she wants to keep him a distant acquanitance. This was one of his early attempts at trying to get her interested in him but it didn't succeed. Poor kid. But, as we all know, that's the way it goes. Anyway, we'll try to reshoot it but I don't think we'll come up with anything significantly better. We'll see.

All best wishes,

Endre

Fantastic long eyelashes but I feel they are hiding her eyes and you need to make the connection between her and the giraffe. Great sharpness.

Winner!
The giraffe is the subject, but I don't think you'll succeed in demoting Csilla to anything less than co-subject. That's fine, this one works with the two competing for our attention.
Bravo!
