I made it just in time!! (No pun intended. )

This is a clock on our courthouse square.

C&C welcome, and solicited, as always!!

Lovely shot, Philly, my dear! The sharpness of the clock is just ravishing! I can't make up my mined whether or not I like the awning and the building in the back. I like the added color but they may be a tad distracting. Either way, it's a wonderful photo!

All best wishes,

Endre

Philly, it is amazing how many clocks Howard Miller made!!!! The clock that Robert shot was a Howard Miller and there were many others in the antique store where we shot his as well. I love the perspective, but I think I would replace the sky or clone it out and put more of the brick building--something other than the gray. It distracts a bit. Imho The sharpness is wonderful and it is a wonderful clock. Nice work my friend.

Philly, it looks like Ole Howard could use a facial. Perhaps no one has noticed before now, but your exquisite photo has revealed every little flaw. I am betting that a meeting at the courthouse is being hurriedly planned at this very moment.

Nice photo. People pay good money to paint walls and other items with paint that will crack just right to look like the old clock you shot. Good job.

Hi Endre, my friend! Thanks so much for looking. I'm afraid there's nothing I can do about the background this time. I'm not good enough with PhotoShop to know how to drop out a background, and I was hoping it would give some sort of 'context' to the clock itself. Unfortunately, no matter which side of the clock one tries to shoot, there are buildings, and trees and poles behind it (not to mention the reflections on the clock face.) This was actually the least 'intrusive' angle.

Oh well......it was the only interesting clock available on short notice. I was away in Little Rock all weekend and Monday for a funeral, and didn't get to scout out other locations.

At least I got something entered, and I'm glad you took the time to look, and comment.

Thanks so much!!!

Hi Jane! If you read my reply to Endre you'll see my problem, but that's ok. I'm happy with what I was able to come up with. They can't all be winners.

Hugs, my friend!

Hi Robert! Yep, our clock face could use some spackle, and a new paint job, but she still has her dignity.

I am pleased with the sharpness, though.

Thanks so much for looking!

Okay, ya'll, I tried my hand at dropping out the background, but I don't think it's up to the usual standards in here. At least I tried!

I hope this is better.

Oh Jane, I'm so glad you came back by. Now I'm not sure what to do. I was just about to revise the image completely with another one entirely.

This one:

So many people entered big clock faces, I thought maybe this one would stand out.
That little baby is only 2.5" tall.

Should I substitute this one for the original?

I'm so torn!!!

Hi Karen! Thanks so much for looking and the great compliment. I hope you come by again and weigh in on the little Carriage clock option. I need all the help I can get!

Thanks again!

Philly,

Your lighting really brings out the textures. I feel like I could reach out and touch it. My mind and eye keep wanting to see the rest of the clock.

Hey Philly,

As Steve (where are you) tried to tell me awhile back - don't diddle with it. (translation: Your original is far more interesting (IMHO) than the little guy). I never saw it before you removed the background but it looks great now. A very interesting comp - not centered, not symmetric, not rule of thirds driven... Definitely sharp and revealing.

Well, Philly, it seems you know more about PS than you're letting on. Great job of cloning out the unnecessary background. Now it is a gret shot! Bravo!

All best wishes,

Endre

Philly--What character you've succeeded in drawing out from "Howard." Well done, as usual!--Frank

Nice entry, Philly!
(my vote: I like the clock on the square better than the little clock.)
