Iincredible shots although painful to view, I have seen large broods whittled down to just a few individuals in just a couple of weeks. Good job capturing the drama and a lovely portrait at the end.
Great shots, just goes to show what an important part the predator birds play in keeping the balance in check, those muskovies reproduce faster than rabbits!
and every time I see a duckling getting taken like that they always have the same "OH S*#T" look on their face. I feel bad for the ducky but better for the night heron!
Amazing stuff. How did you contain yourself as you shot these. That last one is amazing. That duckling is looking right at you "Help me!" Really amazing.
I think it's interesting how we view certain animals as "cute and cuddly" and hate to see them in harms way, but it probably wouldn't get the same reaction if were a baby rat. Great pictures and great series.
Wow. The BCNH+duckling is quite upsetting - AND, quite simply, an extraordinary shot - wow. I'd enter that one in contests... The colors in the family portrait at the end are stunning. Fantastic shots, well done.

I wouldn't go that far...now that Disney has put a human face on the star rat of Ratatouille it won't long before they get a promotion from nasty rodent to cute and cuddly...unbelievable!

Think how many photos we see of fish being skewered, speared, swallowed alive, torn apart, etc. here on FM with nary a comment about cruelty, sadness, or brutality. Yep, the victim has to be warm and fuzzy or cute and cuddly.
