p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · 1D3 Liveview=MLU ?

I just finished viewing the excellent video of the 1D3 features from CPN. I don't have a 1D3 but I have a question for the 1D3 users. Since the Liveview invloves moving the mirror in the up poistion, isn't it the same as mirror lock up? Or, the MLU function is still better to be set up under My Custom Setting?

Stephen,
Yes, the liveview should function just as an MLU with a, well, liveview . Somehow it uses the writing/reading capacity of the card and as such, Canon doesn't recommend using slower cards or micro-drives. It drains the battery faster (but no big deal) and the IS/AF doesn't work. You don't have to deal with those issues in the straight MLU mode.

I thought the microdrive recommendation not to use was regarding the heat buildup from the CMOS sensor.

I don't remember exactly why Canon doesn't recommend using MDs; I thought it had to do with the speed but I can be wrong and I don't have the manual nor the camera here with me......

Joshua, thank you for your answer. Personally, I use MLU mainly when I need the critical focus and sharpenss, and the ability to do maunal fine tuning of the focusing is just perfect with Liveview. In the video, they did mention about the potential heat build-up (at the sensor?) with Liveview, but the camera is smart enough to turn off Liveview when (I assume) the temperature reaches a threshold level. The more I understand the Liveview, the more I like it. Hopefully, I won't like it so much that I have to buy a 1D3 instead of waiting for the 1Ds3 . Btw, I don't understand and did not recall seeing/reading about why Liveview has anything to do with the writing/reading capacity of the card

IS works on mine in LiveView. Yes, it is a quick easy mirror lock-up and I find it more useful for that purpose than for actually using to compose / focus with. The LCD just isn't sharp enough to use for anything much more than course focusing even at max. magnification. The firmware update may help but they should have increased the res of the LCG when they made it bigger.
