I'm not sure of the title for this one. I started shooting with the idea of 'Cinderella's Daydream', then it developed into the idea of a female shopping dream... I'm still unsure, so I might change it...if you have any thoughts please let me know.

Btw, I must apologize to all those I owe PMs too... I didn't even get to respond back to the replies on my last entry - I've had a bad summer bug and have been laid up. I'm slowly getting back on me feet, so please bear with me!

Suse, I hope you'll soon be back on your feet - then off your feet and flying like the dress!
I like the photo, and I like the idea of shopper's heaven. With the hanger, it seems more like that than like Cinderella's dream.

Hey Susan! Get well quick!!

I like this dreamy image, too! Wouldn't mind going to your 'shopper's heaven.'

Great job!!

(Now, get back in that bed, and rest up!!)

Wow, Suse! Ever since you got that flash your photography has gone into a whole other direction. Cool! I would never have guessed this was yours from the thumbnail. It's so bright and iridescent. I had gotten used to your serious black and whites. This is great!

I certainly hope you will be 100 % mended soon. That won't do at all to be sick. We all need you!

Fond regards,

Endre

PS - How did you do the clouds?

Thanks Jess. The hanger was an important bit when I started out shooting. The original inspiration came from 2 Magritte paintings, Philosophy in the Boudoir (I was looking at a Magritte art book while I was laid up). These images were deep, dark and disturbing in how they dealt with female identity, (the hanger bit seems quite important) and I just felt like taking the idea and lightening it up a bit!

Hi Philly

Thanks for the comment. It's much appreciated.

I'm back in bed resting now, and using a Windows laptop to write this. G*d, having been on a Mac for 3 years, I'd forgotten how much I hate Windows..! I think it's making me feel more ill than I am!

Take care
Sue

Hi Endre

Yes, doing colour is a bit of a shock to my system!

Still no idea what I'm doing with the flash. I have used studio strobes before, so have reflectors and stuff. But using one flash is a new experience.

I thought flashs just flashed - but you can dial stuff into this one, like aperture and speed, etc. And I have no idea what that's all about, yet,

I'm going to try and get round to getting hold of a flash diffuser or 2 on eBay - it's going to be a steep learning curve...

Take care
Sue

Hi Suse,

I am glad to hear that you are recuperating, but be careful using that Windows notebook. That frustration could cause a serious relapse.

Really good dreamy treatment to your photo. I like it!

Best regards,
Robert

Forgot to answer your question! The clouds were a separate shot, taken on Monday. Luckily we had a break in the weeks of terrible rain that have hit the uK, and I could find a bit of blue sky. The treatment was just a couple of filters - can't remember which one. I over-lightened the shot slightly with levels to try and give it a more 'ethereal', dreamy kind of look, and bring out the fluffiness of the clouds.

Thanks Robert.

The laptop was a replacement on the house insurance. The old one was set up better for photography. The new Vista replacement they sent, Dell Inspiron 6400, has an awful graphics card, takes 3 years to start up each time and has a yucky, misty screen. I could go on...but I'm saving my energy to throw it in the river.

Hi Jane

Thanks! Somehow I feel it's more of a girlie shot, than one for the boys.

My favourite dress. Not that I like dresses, you understand. Er.. no, it's not that I don't like dresses, it's just that I prefer them on than off. On someone else, that is. Yup. Not me. Unless of course it's a special ocassion. But even then, I'm only allowed a mini skirt, which of couse isn't technically a dress, which makes it all ok.

Oh, and yup, agree that it's different from your usual stuff, but equally as splendid.

Lovely.

to me...the artist seems rather one dimensional...definately not deep, perhaps dark, and definately disturbing. Had you thought about switching out the hanger for a real live female? Even Flibble could have graced this dress with his multi-faceted face...talk about shock value. I get the premise...shopping in heaven...the perfect dress calling you. But, I'm a guy - we plan how to get what we came for in as little time as possible. I suspect I agree with flibble...a dress on is what grabs our attention.

That's why this shot stays in the realm of female fantasy and shopping! Shooting another woman in a dress under the title of 'sweet dream' might have given out a different message than I anticipated...!

Ditto shooting myself in a frock, under that title: a bit too narcissistic or auto-erotic.

And as for Flibble in a dress - well, I'm sure it might be a 'sweet dream' for some, but it's one I'd prefer not to think about! :worried:

Suse,

Good to see a photo from you, havent been around for some time. The hanger and the dress set up the shopping part. The radial blur?, gives a suggestion of being in a bit of a shock as in after a whole load of shopping. BTW, this I get this myself after the first shop forget the end of the day.

Remember when I broke into your compound, and managed to bypass the llamas? Well, I found this pink frock in your locker.

I knew it was your locker because it said 'Flibble's Top Secret Locker' on the front... Inside there was this frock, next to a piece of paper with 'My Plan to Rule the World' scribbled at the top. I knew you wouldn't mind me borrowing it...
