Thanks to those of you who commented on my earlier entry. I thought that this one better fits the theme. I can only dream...

Patty,

I took this one late Sunday afternoon. I kept watching the cloud formations throughout the afternoon, and felt that I would have good sky around sundown, and as you can see, the sky was perfect. Using Jane for the setup, I set the timer at twenty seconds and then stepped into the photo with her. She tried to talk me out of posting it. In her words: "It's hokey!"

I am pleased that you like it. I will let Jane know that you don't think it is "hokey."

Best regards,
Robert

I've heard the term 'dream boat' all my life, but this is the first time I've actually seen one.

Amazing cloud formations...they really give your image a dreamy quality. I love it that you and Jane are in the picture, too. Super job, Robert!!

Philly, no one has called me a "dream boat" in a long time. Oh, sorry! You might have been referring to the yacht.

Magnificent shot, Robert! Those clouds are something else! I'd have loved to see it in color but the B & W works really well. Given some of the rumors I've heard about you and Jane, it looks like the ship is already beinjg towed into port. The only thing that distracts me a teeny bit is the reflection on the side of the boat. Those posts and the clouds look like highly polluting smokestacks. It must be my imagination. I thiink I may have been absorbing too many of Al Gore's crackpot theories. Bravo!

Fond regards,

Endre

I'm confused - which ship is it? Is it the big one, or the little one? Seriously, there is another image here - minus the floating boat bits. It's you and Jane in silhouette, with rays of sun streaming overhead. Would you consider your life a sweet dream? Just a thought. Good shot.

Endre,

I had not seen the "smokestacks" that you mentioned, but it is ironic how those posts do seem to have smoke billowing from them. However, I can assure you that there are no smokestacks within many miles of here. That's one reason that I chose to live here.

I went back and forth between the B&W version and the color version, but opted for the B&W version in order to have the "models" appear more as a silhouette. It was a tough call, because the sky in the color version was pretty impressive.

The rumors are correct. I have asked Jane to marry me, and much to my surprise, she said yes after giving it about three seconds of serious thought. As one of my close friends, a former football player at Georgia Tech, remarked, I have outpunted my coverage.

Best regards,
Robert

I find this a bit visually confusing: the clouds reflected by the side of the boat appear to be a continuation of the open scene directly in front of you, so it is as if you set up a frame with translucent plastic panels. What does the ship add to the scene? Why not a portrait of the two of you gazing into the distance?

Reading the other posts, I see wonderful news about you and Jane, and I congratulate you! I'm so happy for you both! I know your life together will continue to be much richer than the richest photographs! And you'll also each continue to create wonderful photographs, which can add to our enjoyment as well as yours.

Well, Robert,I actually knew the rumors were more than just rumors but I didn't want to spill the beans lest you wanted to do it yourself. So now that you have oficially spilled the beans about your impending wedding I want to be the second (Jess beat me to it) to wish you my heartiest congratulations! I suspect Jane only actually thought about it for a nanosecond and then made you think she was thinking about it for three seconds. You know how women like to play "Hard To Get"!

I wish I could come out to shoot your wedding! How fun would that be? But then, you probably could find any number of great photographers to do that.

Wonderful news and may God bless you both with abundant Health, Happiness, and Success, always!

Love,

Endre

Splendidly happy, happy, happy splendid news. Looks like your sweet dreams are already in place.

Regarding the photo, I thought it was a caravan initially but I can see it's a boat once I look more closely. I'm not very good with identification of vehicles, though, so maybe it's best to ignore my transportational inadequacies.

Top shot.

Congratulations Robert and Jane. Just had a wacky idea...you two could each shoot the wedding...from Jane's perspective, and from your perspective. (Pick the camera up, set the camera down thingy) I second Endre's blessing...good health, long life, happiness, and success in everything you set your hand to do.

Jess, thank you so much for your kind words. Jane and I are blessed in so many ways, not the least of which is with the wonderful friends that we have made here on this site. In retrospect, a shot without the yacht would have been more meaningful in light of our wedding plans, but at the time that I took the photo I was not thinking in terms of announcing that just yet. I am not sure how it leaked, but that's OK. Telegraph, telephone, tell-a-friend...

Best regards,
Robert

Endre, I can think of nothing that Jane and I would like better than for you or any one of our FM friends to shoot our wedding. How cool would that be?!

I suppose that I should be glad that Jane didn't think about my proposal for more than three seconds. Upon careful analysis she might have come to a different decision.

It reminds me of something that my father, who was 50 years of age when he married for the first and only time, said to a friend of his in response to a question about why he had waited so long to wed. He told the friend that he had spent his life searching for the perfect woman, and that at about the age of 35 he found her. To which his friend followed up with the question, "Well, Bob, why didn't you marry her?"

My father replied, "You see, Peyton, I would have, but she was looking for the perfect man."

I am fortunate that Jane said, "Yes" very quickly. Otherwise, I might have experienced the same fate as did my father.

Best regards,
Robert
