http://www.classicalphotography.com/FM_forum/black4.jpg
With the luxury of a late night hour or two, I'm submitting a new entry.
This is a black rhinestone pin in the shape of a clover, on a black patterned scarf with some complementary flowers.
All are resting on a black velvet covered table, and lit by a single monolight with large bowl reflector.

By the way, I did manage to arrange a shot such that no facets were burned to pure white, but I preferred
the look of this one with its overall feeling of deep black along with strong highlights.

Comments always welcomed.

Well, Jess, I think i is a perfect take on the WA. (Did we expect anything less? ) I love the white faceting and the way you arranged the pattern of the scarf to look like the leaves and stem of the brooch. Very creative shot! Well done.

Fond regards,

Endre

I too like the facet visibility Jess, It seems it would be difficult to show the true reflectiveness without it. Great bg and comp. I think this fits the theme better than your other 2 (not that I didn't like them too). Good work on this one.

Thank you Endre, my flattering friend! [I mean that with no irony; you are always generous with your praise and encouragement, and we - or at least, I - need to be flattered once in a while.] I appreciate your noticing the placement of brooch against pattern.
By the way, I think this is the first time you've offered me a beer!
I'm not a big beer drinker, but it's still kind of cool for a musician to receive something more tangible
than just applause, even if both are smiley, virtual offerings!

Thank you Tom! I had hoped, ideally, to manage to show a slight gradient across the
highlighted facets, but that will have to be a project for the next time I try to photograph jewelry.

Definitely the best so far Jess!! It fits the theme and it's very creative...I especially like the idea of using the pattern on the cloth. It all works together to show clearly what the object is and adds a nice touch also.......and a pretty pin it is

Hey, thanks Al! [Although, for you this WA, the second time was the charm! ]

Sometimes costume jewelry is cool!

When I see this photo I think of old flabby armed women that grabbed my cheeks and pinched too hard..."oh, you are sooo cute"...A flash back to bad memories - sorry. Perfectly captured difficult subject, Jess!

Jess,

This conjured up the same memories for me as it did for Jim. And there was always the big black purse that swung from the forearm. And inevitably, "Why, he's so skinny! Zelma, are you feeding this boy? Let me keep him for a month or so, and I'll fatten him up." :worried:

Best regards,
Robert

I'm glad my relatives weren't quite like that, though it must be said that many of them
were crazy in other ways! How did we survive, and grow up to be so "normal"?
Too bad I didn't have a big black purse to add to the black items...

Thanks, and congrats to you in turn!
More than that, congratulations on your growth as a photographer. Your entry is outstanding,
and if you go on to win first place - or even if you don't - your greatest accomplishment will be
the quality of the image itself. I'm sure you will proudly display it for a long, long time!
