I know, I should look up the name, but probably one of you will know:

I think it's barrel cactus, Al. Whatever it is, it's a very nice shot. I'd prefer it without the distracting background shapes but it still is a lovely shot of a very interesting natural pattern. Good work!

All the best,

Endre

I am drawn to the deep greens and the comforting whites that are hidden from touch. I like the composition. Good job.

Thanks for the tip Endre, - You know I need to start noticing those details before I post. I reshot with an attempt to improve the background.

I love cacti Al, and you have captured this one well. I think Endre is right about the family this belongs to. The white cushions around the spines looks so soft it almost begs to be touched...big mistake. Nice job and a great fit for the assignment.

Thanks Tom. We have a bowl, maybe 18 or 20 inches in diameter with several varieties of Cacti, including this one. It was a gift though, so I don't know much about them. I love it when they bloom and of course they don't need a lot of care.

I didn't see the first one, but this one is excellent! I like the colors, and the crop is perfect, too!

This is a wild looking shot! Once again, it blows my mind to see such fascinating images that I have never seen before. This one is very crisp, has tons of patterns in it, has some kind of alien growth on top, sort of gros, good framing, you name it. All around nice shot

Great re-take Al. One of the pleasures of this forum is the good advice you get and it's free.

Phlly, Steve and Bill,

Thanks much for the looks and comments.

Steve, - interesting that you should call that "alien growth" - that's kind of what I thought about it.

Thanks Howard, This is my Carl Zeiss lens, which I like for this sort of shot when I have time to get the manual focus right.
