Just one from my collection of 'pretty rocks.' I wanted to show a bunch of them together, but there was no focal point. This is one of my favorites, and I hope the colors show up true.

C&C welcome, and solicited, as always. Thanks for looking!

Edited 5/10 After re-cropping.

Hi, Philly! Indeed, pretty pebbles, in the sand... As my wife occasionally reminds me, I never lack for an opinion so here goes. Mind you, this is just one point of view, and feel free to ignore it! The left side of the white pebble bothers me - somehow makes it seem out of place with the others, perhaps it is too out of focus. Also there is a line across the left top of the white pebble that catches my eye, but it is not clear to me what it is. The sand at the bottom doesn't look right to me - not a "good" kind of out of focus, if that makes sense. My inclination, for what it is worth, would be to crop off about one fifth from the left side and one fifth from the bottom - gets rid of what distracts me, and keeps the good stuff.

Thank you, Cal!
I am so grateful for 'new' eyes! The line on the white pebble is reflection...it's a real smooth, shiny rock with a blue spot and a whiter 'blotch' in the right corner. What I think is wrong with the sand is it wasn't nice and smooth near the front of my composition (from me moving several stones around again and again,) so it does look wierd. I hadn't even noticed that! I'll work on this some more, and see if I can make it better.

If I decide to toss it completely, I have some fall back shots, but just can't seem to get satisfied with them.

I truly do appreciate your input, and objective viewpoint. (Not being your wife, I don't mind your opinion....I appreciate it!)

For what it's worth I am attaching a pic of some rock 'eggs' in a bowl that I shot a couple of years ago - it would be too egotistical of me to suggest that you try something similar but maybe it would give you some ideas. Cal's advice is sound and hey, these rocks are so attractive they warrant a display of some kind.

Best. Bill

Hi Bill!
Another 'pretty rock' collector, huh? I love your eggs!! Some of my plain ol' rocks are made from the same material as your eggs, and I know you must love them.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Nice shot here Philly, the main rock sort of reminds me of turquoise. I had a rock tumbler as a kid, the colors of even ugly driveway rocks were amazing when polished. My wife is a rock hound. She likes rocks for her gardens. Every trip we go on she packs rocks for the trip back. I learned early...our first trip together was to Nassau. I had to lug 100 lbs of rocks in my 2 carry on bags (the old days).

Hi Philly!!! Sorry I have been away for a while, lots of stuff going on in my life right now, but its all good and positive. What I see form this shot is almost a face from your focus rock? like a mouth, lips, nose, chin from the center piece? You have to look at that on its own. I see what others are saying but I truly like the composition of this one. you thought about it for sure and it works for me.Maybe shoot it again with just the center piece, and leave out the rest? See what happens

Miss you

Steve

Lovely shot, Philly, and lovely rocks. I guess i didn't get to see the original because I can't see what Cal was talking about. The way it is now, is gorgeous. I love the way the colored rock glows against the otherwise bland background. Nice work!

All best wishes,

Endre

Amazing colors Philly. I like the composition. The two smaller rocks provide balance without stealing the show from the star.

Thanks, Tom! I'm a rock picker-upper, myself, and have several pounds of them all over the place. Turquoise is my favorite, too, but this particular rock had such great colors. I couldn't resist having just a bit of a turquoise stone in the photo, though.

Thanks for looking, and commenting!

Hi Steve! I've missed you, too! Glad you're back with us, and I'm glad the reasons for your absence were positive ones.

Actually, I did a few shots of that rock alone, but they didn't 'speak to me' the way this one does. (Whatever that means. )

Here's one I almost submitted, and I still may change my entry. It shows the opposite side of the same rock. See what you think of this. I thought it was too busy.

Thanks so much, Mark! I'm keeping the original one, for the very reasons you state.
I love that one (up there ^) but I thought it was too busy. (I just got wrapped up in the colors!!!) I just wanted to show how pretty the other side of my 'favorite' rock is, too.

I don't know about always 'on the button,' but that's a high compliment, and I appreciate you for saying it.

Philly, I like the original one better. I think it has a better depth of color, not as busy, and more interesting to look at. Go with the first instinct and ride with it. Your work is lovely anyway you put it so don't think it will matter that much......
