I'd much rather see a bundle of threads on the same camera than have to look through thousands of posts involving hundreds of topics in the one thread.
The other extreme is to have a single thread for each camera and for each lens. What the heck, how about one for each manufacturer. Yes I am being silly but that's what mega-threads are like for people who are interested but cannot afford the time and effort to wade through and organise all of the posts.
A compromise would be to start a new forum for the 1-series cameras or L-series lenses, but even then it would never work for everyone because there is a lot of legitimate cross-over between pro gear topics and the rest.
I feel sorry that OP thinks there is too many 1d3 threads. This is a board about canon gear, and 1d3 is a *major* release.
And I don't understand the reason why we only want one thread for 1d3. For the format of this board, that is few posts per page, isnt better that we discuss different thing on its own thread? like new AF module, micro AF, buffer, etc?

Uh, do you feel sorry for yourself or sorry for me? In any event I am sorry you are sorry but I am not sorry that Jeff did a consolidation.
Sorry if I rambled...
Well.. he didn't actually consolidate them.
He started a new thread, leaving probably 50 more pages of great discussion to be locked, and never seen again. Only to be repeated again in his new thread.
Too bad they weren't consolidated.
I still think its a bit silly to only have one thread.
People are here to talk about Canon gear. So if all we feel like talking about the 1D3 for the next few days, why shouldnt we. Heaven only wishes the "85v85" etc threads were only allowed 1 thread. So for some reason the biggest news in a year gets censored, while all the useless stuff thats been covered a thousand times over drones on.
That having been said, I certainly didnt mind when the boring discussion of the XTI was relegated to one thread, so I suppose alls fair in love and forum

I am confused.
Thats right. If something is a major release, everyone should start one thread. We don't even have to post replys, we should just start another thread.
Oh, and you're right, one new thread to discuss different things, so one thread for the tripod mount, and a new thread for the placement of it, and a another thread for what its made of.
biggest news in a year gets censored and I don't think anything's being sensored. Administering traffic so as to give EVERYONE usage of the website, is not sensorship. Consider that 99.5% of people that own an DSLR will not buy this camera.
The camera hasn't been released and won't for another month. THATS why there should be one thread, so we can banter, laugh, drool, and dream about it. If people don't want to troll through pages and pages of stuff, then get the damn white paper from Canon. What, do you think that people here are going to know more about a camera that they have never seen before, and not evern released yet. Is that what you'll make your buying decision on?

True, but right now way more than 0.5% of people on the Canon forum want to talk about it.
Consider this.
Giving 'everyone' usage of this forum, would imply that each user has an equal interest in the general content of the forum.
Without restriction (i.e. limiting a topic to one thread) essentially, supply meets demand on the forum.
The number of posts (supply) on a subject is related to how many users wish to discuss that topic (demand). So however many posts on a subject exist at once simply reflects how 'everyone' as a whole wants things to be.
So if 'everyone' wants to talk about the 1D3, then more posts will reflect that. Its not like some conspiracy to drown out other topics... it just happens to be what is of interest on the day.
And if you dont care about the new camera, thats cool. But I think you're a bit naive if you dont see how many real features there are for people to discuss. This is after all a forum dedicated to Canon DSLR's.
Unfortunately, there is no way to consolidate them into a newer thread. And, just this moment I figured out the workaround, but it's too late for this time. Sorry.
I'm not niave about a new camera that is rather groundbreaking. And the very reason that you set up a dedicated thread to talk about it. Put some sanity and control into things.
The camera doesn't exist in a shop yet.
The number of threads indicates how many people want "THEIR" opinion on a topic heard, so as to not compete with all the other noise. I can understand that, so I'm not bagging it. What I'm getting at is this camera doesn't even exist in a users hands yet, lets give it its own thread. In fact, its got it own "Official Thread".
If everyone wants their own thread about it, this forum gets messy, it has happened in the past. I'm happy to bring along my own stick for the beating of the horse.

No worries...
I know that two of the threads had a lot of good discussion, so just thought there was a lot of good fodder for the sticky
im half tongue in cheek anyways, as I said, I loved having only one sticky for the 400D ... just prodding the other side of the debate, cause I did enjoy the fact that I was actually able to follow a few threads before they become behemoths into the 100's of pages.
