William... I will repeat the kudos. These look very nice, and I'm glad to see that my 20d is capable of this kind of work (in the right hands).
I'd be interested in the results in a different gym... one without the nicely white, and relatively unobstructed ceiling. Ever use this in another gym?
Excellent shots, I think the best single strobe shots I have ever seen. In addition to white walls and ceiling, that gym has a high gloss floor that looks clean as a whistle. I suspect that helps with the lighting and it gives some nice reflections too. Normally at 250 I would expect to see some motion in the player's extremities but I see none at all. Excellent work.

Thank you for the kind compliments but I really have to say that watching people's work here in FM really helped me achieved the results you see in my pics. Not to mention me asking a lot of questions to the posters and they were more than willing to answer my questions and sharing their experiences. This type of networking and willingness to share information makes this forum an amazing place.

drbob,
Yes, I have shot in two different gyms. This post is the second gym and the second gym is in My First Time Shooting With Strobes The gyms are built similar, almost identical so it was easy to place the lighting on the other one based on my first experience. Sorry that I don't have shots were I placed the lights in the other gym but it's basically the same position to the other.
I hope that I answer your questions and you got what you're looking for in my answer, if not please keep asking and I'll give it another try.

You're right, the white walls helps tremendously and the floor too. I did tried 320 but I started to see a little curtain effect so I put it back to 250, I think shooting the AB800 at full power helps freeze the action.
Very nice indeed. Nothing else needs to be said that hasnt
I've often worked with a single strobe myself for newspaper assignments. It gives good light on half of the baseline and the side of the lane Im shooting and its sure easier to set up.
When it works well, such as your images, it even provides a nice natural falloff into the stands which I always love the look of.
