Well, one good thing you can do with churches is
convert them into a restaurant/bar/lounge. This has
happened here, and the result was named "Glück
und Seligkeit", which might be translated into
"happiness and beatitude" (really not sure about
that last bit).

Cunning a photographer I am, I covered my activities
with a wonderful pizza and a glass of wine (or two).
And I was really happy for some time (though the
creme brulee was a bit of a disappointment, but it
was accompanied by a sorbet of passion fruit, and
that made me extremely happy )

Comments and criticism welcome!

Marc.

Marc.....I like the different take you have on this weeks theme. We have an Italian restaurant
in New York that is in an old converted church. They too have wonderful Pizza!
If I'm not mistaken you were having a glass of wine and pizza during the WA-Cold week and
the colors on the seats here seem strangely familiar. Are you in the same place
(you are definitely having too much fun)

Patty,

Thanks for your comment! And you have a very good
memory! No, this is a different restaurant. Again, though,
I had pizza and wine. But what do you mean with
"having fun"? This is serious photojournalist work!

Best,
Marc.

This is certainly a different take on the theme, really cool!
The seats in the foreground create a very good balance with the rest of the picture.
It brings back memories, also from NYC, as Patricia must know, the Limelight nightclub that was a ‘Church’ discotheque that became extremely popular in the 80’s…

Marc, I thought this was mainly an American phenomenon, there are a few around here which are now restaurants. Great take on the theme Marc. A few years ago someone applied for a license for a "gentleman's club" to be in an old church...no go on the application.

John,

I'm glad you noticed the balancing function of the seats!
It's also nice that they're round, mirroring the arcs. Had they
been square, I couldn't have done much about it, so I was
lucky. I also took some shots with people sitting there, but
they took way too much attention (image-wise; otherwise
they were behaving well )

Best,
Marc.

Tom,

Now that's interesting, because I thought something like this
wouldn't be possible in America, given that it is such a religious
country. I bet most of these converted churches are in NYC.

The church here is in a religious sense not a church anymore,
since before conversion it underwent "profanation" (here as a
matter-of-fact term). What is left, though, the architecture,
together with the interior design concept, is just wonderful.

Best,
Marc.
