This is the by now classic one...

I shoot stuff like this all the time, and I get paid for it. Even though I have no huge quality requirements for this in terms of megapixels or dynamic range, I just couldn't submit files like the above. Impossible. Nor am I going to sit and manually restore enough to have a decent selection for the editor!
William, I am loath to be the one to tell you how to reproduce the problem, since I love my little M8 and will be keeping it, trusting that Leica will give us a decent fix. Still, I don't believe in a head-in-the-sand attitude. Try photographing various items of dark clothing next to a window, during the day. Velvet, velour, hi-tech materials, anything like that. An office chair with black cloth would probably also work.
I finally got to play with one without time preasure yesterday. I have about 90 minutes with one, and tried the new 28 ASPH (tiny and light! - although a more 'plastic' feel than I had hoped), the 35 lux, 50 lux, 90 Emarit and TriElmar (28-35-50). OK, my order is firmly fixed with the dealers, but alas I am waayyyy down the lists everywhere. The highest on any list is 37 ! (can you hear the violins playing as I cry?).
I also went to a different dealer where I took some comparison shots with my 1Ds2. Now, thse shots were scientific, so I do not intend to publish them here, but I can say that I was suprised shot how good the M8 compared (they were mch better), even though the M8 shots were taken 'through the glass' of the shop door window, and the 1Ds2 shots were taken 'outside'. Also, the M8 was with the 28ASPH and the 1Ds2 was with the 24-105L. But WOW! I am blown away how good the M8 stuff came out. The first word was Wow, the second words were 'Look how clean this is' !
The one thing I did decide was that I am not going to buy the base plate grip. I am going to buy the leather base protector instead (P/N 14 869). This made holding the camera much more comfortable, and the angle of the leather on the front face of the camera was much more natural to my hands (fingers).
OK - so now I am really pissed off at how far down the lists I am!
I also played with a DMR for about 30 minutes. I really liked it, but I am not ready to give up my long Canon glass yet, and without doing do, I can't justify the DMR as well as the M8. Maybe in the next year or two..... possible with a DMR rev 2!
The future is looking better though.... (although more expensive!)
Hi guys! I think I have the solution in postprocessing to the magenta shift: Nikon Capture NX. It allows multiple different black points on all areas of the photograph in one correction pass.
I just walked out of the door to test the fill-flash function of the M8: (as for IR, the colour of the branches and stalks is correct, so no problems with foliage throwing off IR..)

The "Why I'm Not Getting an M8" thread has a lot more credibility at this point. Suckers !
You're blathering; most of use have the camera and are using it to good effect.Troll!

I'm not so sure. I think a fix and a firmware update would be a good idea. And a power switch lock, if someone could figure out how to do that - I think I may pay a mechanic to install one.
Do certain people know that certain other people also live in AZ?
Guy, good work. I ordered (39, 46 55) from Alex (tony probably on the phone with another colleague from here).
They said they arent getting the 60mm, but I have two lenses that need thatI assume Tony will check.
If Sean is right, the filters could make certain shots SHARPER. My hypothesis is that this is due to the cooler shift (blue end being shorter WL, actually can produce sharper image with a given lens.) So by filtering the longer end, maybe it does get sharper!
The 21mm WA shot with the filter has definate green/cyan edges to it.
Looks like a problematic WA lens on the SLR/c which can have a megenta shift to them at the edges. Has me thinking that maybe a filter is all that needed to take care of the problem. I love the Zuiko 35/2.8 sharpness and color, but never found a way to solve the magenta corners issue, hmm...

You may be right, but I think it is more likely that since infrared focuses at a different point that visable light, it will make the image a bit fuzzy.

Paul the 21mm aftr further viewing does have some cyan in the corners . I am betting the 24mm the widest without it , tryit when I get a filter big enough on Monday
Perhaps this is why Leica says to use the filter (probably their filter) and lenses with the 6 bit code so they can correct the color shift. They can probably correct anythig that behaves in a predictable way - as long as they can control the variables like the filter and lens.
This may also be why their firmware has been taking so long because they are doing things that no one else has done in firmware - that no one else has HAD to do. Add this to the correction for light fall off and micro lenses, and this may be a LOT of processing for each shot.
