I hesitated a moment over the strong vertical near the center of the frame, then decided it works because of the assymmetrical composition of everything else.

Thanks for the comments Jess. I hesitated over it also, but the more i looked the less distracting it became, until i liked it. I'd be curious about other viewers opinions.
I could painstakingly remove it.
Actually it was a series of 3 poles at the end of the dock....the 3 poles were overwhelmingly distracting, so i waited until i drifted (in a kayak) even with them to make them appear as one.
Thanks again

Nice shot, Peter! I don't mind the big pole simply because one expects something like that at the end of a dock. I love the sepia treatment and the low contrast. It gives it misty feeling. Bravo!
All the best,
Endre

Wow!
What a wonderful photograph and I hope you framed this one.
Best of luck this week but I don't think you will need it

Beautiful shot Peter, the stillness and tranquility is wonderfull. I like all the elements of this photo. The sepia tone gives it an air of times past. Well done.

I was just thinking in simple terms myself!

Simply a very pleasing photo, yet somehow almost complicated by the strong line dividing things on one side or the other.

Peter:

In the thumbnail view, this image didn't really "grab" me. Fortunately I stumbled into it anyway. It really evokes a sense of forgotten simpler times. Creates a real mood. Nice sepia treatment too; someday I'll have to learn how to do that.

Good luck!

Peter,

Simply beautiful! You have captured a mood and conveyed it amazingly well with your post processing treatment. I like this a lot, and I would like it even more without the pole, which would, in my opinion, give it more of a nostalgic look, but even with the pole in there, this is a powerful reminder of oft-forgotten simplicity.

Letely I've been doing sepia in Paintshop by desaturating and then adjusting the color torwards both red and yellow, which seems to be a better sepia than the sepia 'artistic' filter
Thanks for the comments!

Caley and Robert......thanks to both of you for the comments. As for that 'pole' in the middle of the picture, this AM I carefully removed it from the image and the picture looked wierd somehow (at least to me). I left a small pole because the boat has to be tied to something......and it just wasn't right. so.........i guess it's part of the picture.
Oh well...............it's not in the finals anyways, but the pole is an interesting question.

Thanks again for the comments!
