I found these forms unearthed from beneath a compost pile over the weekend. What were they and what produced them? After a bit of research and consultation with my favorite natural historian, the conclusion is they are the eggs from a milk snake that hatched late last summer. Though not visible in the photo, each egg had a narrow slit in it from where the young snake cut its way free on a warm day last August.
