Bravisimo Endre. Wonderful cloud formation! As always perserverance pays off handsomely, my friend. Another finalist for sure.

Funny how we meet new friends when least expected!
This is a great picture with such an excellent background, serendipity at its best…

The contrast between the background sky and the building is great. Super lighting, too. The story behind you taking it is nice, too. Glad to know not everyone is afraid of everyone else! cheers

Endre,

Serendipity? Luck? Timing? You have proven the adage that the harder one works, the luckier he or she becomes. Great shot!

Robert

Thank you, Robert, my friend. I always so enjoy your kind comments.

Absolutely great exposure. Looking at the clouds you must have timed it perfectly not to get the harsh shadows as it seems perfectly dimmed by the light clouds. Beautiful picture. I appreciate the attachment to this landmark too.
Christian

So glad you like it, Christian. Diffused lighting is always the best and I find that clouds do that better than anything else. It seems that the best of this week's photos incorporate some sort of personal attachment. It's fascinating to see how personality influences our work. As always, I really appreciate your kind comments.
All the best,
Endre

Thanks, Jane. Your comments are always so kind! As to finalist - as we all know, that entirely depends on Fred's judgment so we'll see what happens.

Thanks, Doug. Yeah, that's a great thing - especially here in LA. The houses up there are really high-end. All of them are well over a million. so one might expect that the people living there would be particularly wary. Of course, having my sister-in-law and two of my kids with me helped put them at ease but still it was very nice of them to give me access to their back yard.
All the best,
Endre

Nice capture. The dramatic cloud patterns, and the fantastic soft light make this a great photo. Sometimes you have to struggle a bit for the perfect shot. Glad you found it

I'd love to see this one at a larger size - the clouds are amazing.

As to the serendipity, one of Ansel Adams' favorite quotes was from Louis Pasteur - "chance favors a prepared mind." This photo certainly demonstrates the validity of that statement.

Well seen and well captured!

Nice image Endre. I like the composition and repitition of shape... looks like little brother and big brother. I have to ask if the sky was composited in? The reason I ask is because of the soft shadows on the observatory would lead me to believe that it was very cloudy (more than in the image)... diffusing the light. Also the left side of the building is highlighted telling me that the sun is coming from the left side but the clouds are being lit from the right side. I think this is what is adding to it's surrealness. Either way, cool image!!!
