I really don't see why everybody is so bummed about the 30D. It fixes every problem everybody ever had with the 20D. ISO in the VF, 1/3 ISO stops, deeper buffer, etc. I bet the focusing has improved to, just like the 1D2 vs the 1D2n. So it doesn't have 12mp, so what? Feel the need to go buy even bigger cards?
It may not be worth upgrading for, but there's not doubt that it's far better than the 20D for people that are just jumping into the game or switching from 300D/10D.
This deffinitly isn't worth an upgrade for many folks from the 20D although I have to wonder about the "improved" shutter durability of 100K, the rebel was rated at 50, so they saying the 20D had same durability as the rebel?

My thought exactly. I read that the 20D is already at 100,000
A big yawn to this update. Not really worth it for 20D users to update this unless the files can show a huge significant of cleaner files. For current 20D owners, IMHO it's wiser to wait till 2007.
This feels like a firmware upgrade with a few 1-series goodies thrown in to sweeten a sour deal. Let's hope the street price reflects the lack of a significant jump in specifications.
It makes the 20D better but if i still had a 20D not sure i would upgrade but honestly the larger LCD is really a nice feature. When i go from teh 1Dmk2N to the 1Dsmk2, I have trouble with the small LCD. As we predicted a few years ago, there would be a time when the new upgrades would become marginal-- similiarly to computers. Of course once in awhile there will be a big new breakthrough.. Mark
Well if the price is around $1200, that would bring another question, will Canon bring some thing in the sub $2000 rang to compete with the Nikon D200?
I've been waitng to see what would replace the 20D this month before getting a 5D. Nothing in the 30D which temps me to save a bit of money and stick with 1.6x.
How much better does the 30D look with the 85L than with the kit lens!

It was $1499 for the body. The kit with the EF-S 17-85 was $1999.
$100 off + more features, many of which could presumably be done with a firmware upgrade, compared to the 20D. Boy, it certainly does seem like Canon is shaking their money maker for every last drop of cash from the consumer. A year and a half in computer terms is a really long time, no? My bankbook should thank Canon though; they've given me confidence to stay with my 300D for another round.

Very true. It trully has been a wonderful ride so far. In a way, it would be nice to see the market level out as far as new upgrades. We're at a point where I would rather see more attention to better glass to accommodate the higher demands of higher resolution bodies.
well, galbraith's telling it like it is, and that forum base is a bit more influencial on the manufacturers.
i'm betting that while someone's putting wireless flash control into the next body, they're still going to leave out the MLU button just to irk all the big reviewers. It's a funny joke now.
