My first MA, and I admit somewhat rushed, looking forward to more time on the next one and learning from others. This shot was taken at Cafe Vivace in Seattle, probably the finest espresso shop in the states, if not the world.

Why does everyone shoot their coffee!? I do like the leaf-like pattern in the coffee though, but I'm still tired of coffee shots

Well I can only speak for myself, I have no idea what others' motives are.

First, its espresso, no coffee! Second, that leaf pattern is known as a rosetta, a type of 'latte art' which is an art form in of itself.

Anyways, the theme was 'your town' and although I could have taken the same shot of the space needle everyone else takes, I thought this was a bit more fun and original. (Though apparently not!)

Those jokes of espresso stands on every block are not jokes, they are actually innacurate, its closer to four or five. We survive on espresso, and are lucky enough to have the best spots for it.

Anyways, although I do have some misgivings about this shot, the theme itself is not one of them. My town is Seattle, and few things define it like a perfect pour and rosetta from Vivaces.

lol, I mean no disrespect To me, it's all coffee, sure it doesn't taste quite the same, but they're both made from beans. They are different beans, yes, but in coffee there are also different roasts. Also, yes, the process is different, but it's still a brown, warm drink that contains caffeine

The rosetta is interesting. Sorry, I'm one of those really anti-starbuck/coffee lingo people. I can't stand the word barrista, and I don't understand how something small can be called tall. (And yes, I realize you weren't at starbucks, but it did originate in Seattle ) And while I'm at it I propose coffee keep instead of barrista, even if everything they serve is not techinically coffee.

Also, for the record, I'm a fan of Chai from my local small-business coffee shop. It's my fad drink of choice

I saw this and thought "Seattle" - fits perfectly. Not many cities have a symbol that immediately makes the connection quite like seattle and a cup of coffee (in your case espresso). The Seattle Weekly in the corner satisfies my question of "was I right?"

BTW, congrats on making it to the finals.
