Very nice Jack. You and Glenn have inspired me to get going earlier in the morning. How do you meter scenes like this with the strong backlight? Do you spot meter a few areas or let matrix do it's thing?

Thanks Garry! My late nights get in the way of my early mornings, but I'm trying to get to bed earlier. The morning light is getting too hard to pass up
As to metering, it just depends on what you want. I usually spot meter a critical part of the scene, then adjust exposure to where I want that critical part to fall. Other times, I'll use matrix metering, especially when the camera is not pointing directly into the sun, then adjust as needed. For some reason, it's just easier for me to shoot in manual mode when I'm trying to be 'creative' because it helps me to keep a handle on what the camera is doing.
