p.1 #1 · CZ Bear is out: first "walk" with CZ21mm

Well, I think the winter is out here in Toronto. I finally got time to take my baby for a wlak the other evening. Here are some samples. Carl Zeiss 21mm on Canon 1Ds MKII with JTs adapter, Lee standard filter holder (82mm wide angle adapter) and ND 2 soft edge.
I will post more as I process them.

That is (EDIT: Those are, not that is - you're adding images) amazingly crisp! I'm leaning towards wanting one myself.

BTW, what aperture/shutter settings did you use?

Excellent captures. I've found that I enjoy using both the 15 and 21 on my 1ds as excellent ultra-wide walking around lenses...it really allows you to put together a good story in the images. I just need a little bit more of that higher iso magic the 1ds2 is able to provide for darker shots.

All images hand held. Day time ISO 100~250, evening up to 800.
F stops up to 8.0, not more.
Shutter 1/15~1/250

This was my first time after ages doing stop down mettering/shooting. I use to do this with Zeniths and Practicas in last century. Slow? Yes! But it is good feeling seeing these images after. Worth every cent....

Thanks Guy...
This was my neighborhood (in down town Toronto) for last 10 years... Now, next month I am moving a little bit east side (stil close to down town) and I feel "touchy" about the change... Maybe, that's why images are "moody"....

Nice pictures - seems like a great lens you have there but more importantly, the person behind it. I espeically like the shots of the DVP over the Don River.

These pictures keep reminding me - "Go downtown to take pictures" - I live in the east end of the city and you've taken pics from a strip of road i've wanted to travel and take pictures along the way.

Gorgeous shots.
Is it just me or does the 1DS and 1DSII have a definite "look" ? Whenever i see shots like these from 1DS/1DSII they remind me of film shots....i don't know if it's the body, the glass or the processing. All i know is that i love it.

Curse you, Phoul Photographic Phiends!

I am phurther inphected!

Phirst, I phind Mancuso's portrait taken with 1DsM2 & 200mm1.8 a while back, and thus was inphluenced - nay, Phorced! - to purchase same rig, despite the phact I'm not a pro - just a phool with too much money / not enouph brains. Now, I phind myselph phorced to phurther depravity by Steven.
...and phorced to repeat the plaintive cry phirst uttered by Kostia in this thread...

Where the heck do I phind one of these? The only place I could phind was B&H, and it was out of stock there...

...and phurther, to Mr. Mancuso, could you be so kind as to give the part number of the lens adapter from Cameraquest? It was not easily visible to this blind bat when perusing their Web Page.

Phates PhorePhend, it appears I'm doomed to spending all disposable income on this vile phetish...

(Note to self: knock off with the "ph" crap in phuture submissions)

Broadview/Queen area of Toronto. Of course used to be industrial nutshell of Toronto from 1800's to early part of the century before the hippies/yuppies popularized in 70's and early 80's. The Distillery District is near there (great for old time pics) as well as the oldest strip club in Toronto (Jilly's). Close to some movie studios and most recently provided a backdrop for some movie depicting the 1930's. Down the road is the Beaches area which is great for landscape/waterscape panoramas.

So Steven, where are you moving to?? Beaches, east york, etc.?? Huge mortgages down that way... Getting sick living near Staples I guess!

Hey Golden Boy!
Yeah, Beaches....
I use to live there long time ago (early 90's...) when it was "cool and hip"... When all the old shops were there, owned by mamas and paps ( I have most of my photo library from the secon hand books stores at the time). And you could afford it. Now, it's "only" million $$ houses and "Starbucks". You can not even go and see Jazz fest in July. It is dangerously crowded...
I am moving to Riverdale: geometrical center between Greek town, Indian town and China town... You can figure out. This area still has "normal" realestate, and you don't have to drive X5 to fit in...
I am sad to leave my area at the present. It was so nice while it lasted. I love downtown: trhe noise, the smell, the heat in the summer... I am going to be so far from Betty's (on King)
But, life goes on...

Thank you for postig the pictures. There was vignetting in the corners - was that caused by the 82mm filter?

Dear Mr. Mancuso,

Thanks for the link to the CameraQuest Zeiss adapter.

Now, a request, based on the recent rarity of the CZ 21mm Distagon:

Please meet me in the Dark Alley of your choice, at a mutually agreed-upon date and time. Please arrive in an inebriated state (3+ sheets to the wind is preferred), with no friends or acquaintences - most particularly those named Guido -and bring your CZ 21mm distagon. Since you were so kind as to furnish me with the link to the Cameraquest Adapter, you needn't bring that...

I know that this tactic - and its hoped-for outcome - probably seems harsh, but I'm sure you'll agree that I should bear no responsibility for my ignorance, slothe, and procrastination with regard to the procurement of said lens, now that they're so hard to find.

Bandages from said encounter are all on me! (well, they'll be on you, but I'll be happy to pay for 'em...)

Kind Regards,
Mr. Andrews
