This could be a fun pocket travel body looks like Canon is taking it pretty serious with the heat vents for video
Will be interesting to see price looking like between $900-1,000

The lack of a built in flash seems like a substantial omission, given what I assume is the target market (the largely 20-something crowd snatching up point-and-shoots at eye popping prices, and travelers). Still very interested, though. Screen resolution is a personal bummer, though I doubt many will care.

Interesting to see this new product challenging the Sony ZV series for videography, especially the kit lens which equals to 16-50.

Assuming this sensor has decent read out speeds so that 4k 60 is useable-

I am all over it-

Looks like a great little camera!!!!

It's designed for video - no control dials either. Would probably have had a video light (continuous) if anything, right?

IMO this camera is squarely aimed at vloggers. I'm not sure Canon is aware of the current trend/fad of 20-somethings buying old digital point & shoots to use instead of phone cameras. They haven't even attempted to release something to compete with the Fuji X100 fad from some time ago. Nor have they tried to muscle in on Leica's high-end Q series niche...

Looking at it a little harder, you guys are right -- clearly a vlogging cam. Still, seems like an odd choice, given how insanely popular the G7X line has been the last year or two. I'm a point-and-shoot True Believer; I have had more fun on trips with just my X100V than any other travel camera setup I've ever had. I hope Canon puts more R&D into this market because I'd love to see a stills focused P&S with Canon's AF and reliability.

It looks like an interesting little camera, but I would really be all over it if it was more of a photography-focused camera than video. It would've been great if Canon had chosen to create something similar to the X100-series, as Ron mentioned above; having Canon's latest tech in a body similarly sized to the G7X-series and making it with much less emphasis on video would be amazing, but I realize that's not the way of things at present. Maybe one day...

This looks pretty amazing, similar to the S9 + 18-40 minus the size and overheating, is there any indication of 10 bit color?

It has a nice size, nice little lens, good sized sensor-

How is it not photography focused? 30 FPS?

What more could you want from a little point and shoot?

Well, no EVF and a cooling fan kind of gives it away. For a grand I'd rather have a R50 or R10. They're small enough for v-blogging at arm's length and true hybrid stills/video designs.

Video recording functions that allow for greater freedom in video expression, including the incorporation of a cooling fan
The camera is equipped with a cooling fan inside, which efficiently releases heat, reducing the impact of temperature rise on video recording time. In addition to realizing 4K crop/60P video recording, it supports “Canon Log 3”, allowing recording with rich 10-bit gradation and excellent color reproduction.

Thank you

I have some visual nitpicks
1/4 20 mount is so silly
I’m open to usb-c charging and transfer, but 480mbps……
Right sided ports
LP17, is that enough? I can’t say, batteries are tricky, some cameras are really efficient however the active cooling suggests otherwise.

I am just so tired of small cams that overheat when doing video, this is likely a day one purchase and i have some Panasonic gear coming my way…. Going to refuse the package….I’m going to bank on an offset bottom plate being made by smallrig to alleviate the bottom issue, probably before the camera gets released in America. Cant wait, this is day one order for me, can’t say it’ll beat a full frame setup i have now, that I enjoy immensely, and I’m open to canon proving me wrong. Lot of things done right, won’t overheat, and i can probably overcome everything else.

Canon is totally video oriented in all their new cameras.

I am curious: why is a 1/4-20 mount silly? That's been the standard tripod mount for a very long time.

I take it you dont use small cameras much, look again, whatever you mount is going to instantly cover your battery door.

That's an easier problem to solve than not having a 1/4-20 socket to begin with.

Good zoom range, but corners don't sharpen up for close photography per Chris Frost review:

&ab_channel=ChristopherFrost

Gordon had a landscape check and corners were ok on screen:

photographyblog has some raw images to check:

Some control dials and a viewfinder would be nice.

I actually picked one up-

Its a damn nice camera- Much more substantial then a Ricoh Gr3- Not as big as a X100v

AF is shocking fast for a point and shoot. This camera feels like a winner so far- Going to take it into the woods on a mtn bike ride this weekend and test it out-
