p.1 #1 · Which older/used compact digital camera for 10 year old girl?
I want to buy a compact camera for a 10 year old girl. She absolutely wants a camera of her own.
Now I wonder which older/used compact camera would make sense for her.
I could buy a Pentax WG1000 for 250,- Euro new, but the image quality isn’t really good. Now I wonder whether one can buy a camera for about 200-250 Euro that’s maybe a few yearly old but still better than said Pentax compact camera?

My 23y/o bought some rubbish piece of junk with a Kodak badge. Maybe a hundred knew. She loves it. Her phone takes way better photos but right now the crappy 1990’s compact digital is all the rage. It seems that IQ doesn’t really matter. It’s the experience and the fun of something that’s not a phone. I could give her a dozen better cameras tomorrow. She doesn’t want any of them.
The Pentax will be fine, unless you’re trying to get her into *photography* as it has no controls. Also the Olympus tough cameras are popular. Waterproof and all that. Smaller seems to be important. Either those or a Instax, if she can afford to run it.

Thank you!
Yes, probably it’s true that holding a real camera is the first step. But then sugaring, I wanted to avoid that her iPhone Mini takes better picture than the camera she‘ll get from me. Well, maybe not a mission possible at this price range.

Two suggestions-
At 10 she may prefer something with a tangible output- The Fuji Instax camera that print the photos- My son loved it when he used them just because it was instant-
Also there is a CampSnap camera that is probably just as cool as any of the older point and shoots for only 65 bucks!!!!!
I have the campsnap under the christmas tree right now

How about a Leica Sofart II... She can shoot into a memory card or onto instax film. I think that would be a lot of fun for a kid. I know that usedphotopro.com has a bunch in LN condition for sale.
If the used Leica is too much ($330), the same camera is made with Fuji software (called the Evo, I think) for about $200

The Leica is a nice idea. I thought about the Sofort for myself as well
So she can also use it as a digital camera, if I understood correctly. Best of bought worlds?

Check out the Camp Snap thread. Designed for tweens going to summer camp when phones aren't allowed. There is no screen, it's 8 MP but they're new and cost $65 dollars or less. Huss made some really nice images from it. Plus, you can plug it in to you phone to view the images.

I was going to recomment this, but I also know that there is something a bit "magical" about being able to print a picture that you take with you friends.. of coure this adds and extra expense, but seeing a shot on paper gives a tween/teen something a bit more than what they can do with an old phone.

Thanks for every suggestion
You could pick up an older generation 1" sensor camera from Sony/Panasonic/Canon - much higher image quality. Lets say the original Sony RX100, or original Canon G7x etc. If fixed focal length is fine then the more recent Sony ZV-1F can be a pretty good option - it is available for $350 new and has a 1" sensor with a 20mm equivalent f2 lens.

Also very good advice. That seems to be what I was looking for. Just have to find something that fits my budget. Thank you!
