p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · R5 Mark II - quickly switching back button focus option

Hi all,

It’s been a while since I’ve used a Canon body and I’ve just starting using an R5 Mark II, so my apologies if this is a simple question!

I’d like to be able to quickly toggle between focus being on the shutter button and focus only being on the AF-ON button. The reason is that I prefer focus being on the AF-ON button only but I’d like to be able to hand the camera to another person and have them easily able able to use it, with AF on the shutter button.

What’s the best way to make the switch quickly?

Thanks!

Use one of the C modes. Just click it to that mode before you hand it over.

Not an answer to your question exactly, but If you have a BBF button assigned, and the shutter button with focus and meter and shoot, if you hand it to friend it will shoot off shutter. If you hold down your BBF, it overrides the shutter button. So unless that presents a problem, no need to switch.

Yes but... that takes away the option of using BBF to focus on an offset subject, lifting your thumb, recomposing and then pressing the shutter button. I know you can always move the focus point instead, but for me that always feels slower. YMMV.

Depending on what you are having them shoot, if you switch to Auto + on mode, I think that reverts it to shutter button release, and auto everything.
