I was shooting today in Soho, NYC, and stopped and engaged this gentleman in conversation. I asked him why he had dyed his hair orange. He explained that he had seen the movie "The Fifth Element" and had been impressed with the character played by Milla Jovovich who sported bright orange hair. What better reason.

Wonder if this individual were to watch the movie the Hulk would he dye himself green?.. at some point the bigger question is why the confused can be so easily influence...

My first thought when seeing this without reading your description was of Leeloo from The 5th Element. Cool shot, and his hair looks great. I might have asked him to turn his face into the light a little more just to get some light in his eyes.

Most likely youthful experimentation, and rebellion from the norm. Next week it might be green. 😀

Thanks for the observation and suggestion Daniel. The midday light was coming from his left and it would have been a simple matter. He was with two other friends who were impatient, so our exchange was very brief, and they were on their way.

Maybe..Looks more like mental illness... ever since the breakdown of strong family values globally we are seeing some pretty bizarre individuals... although they make great subjects for our art work! HA!

Mental illness, in most cases, doubtful. In my generation, shoulder length hair, bell bottoms, smoking pot, rock music, even tripping, were signs of youthful rebellion. Sure, there were and are casualties along the way. Fortunately, family values continue to be the mainstay in our country.

Nice image! I like the (almost) image filling face looking straight into the lens. Also like the fact that he' s not smiling! Person in the back ground with red/orange sweater distracts a little.

Really??.. I think one trip to either Downtown LA or Van Nuys CA. would make one wonder if family values ever even existed! complete free fall in large areas across the US... very said...
