Very close to buying the 24mm Tilt/shift lens; but a bit of a dilemma....the mark one, or the much more expensive mk 2 (twice the price plus)

Decided to go for the 24mm option after seeing numerous sample pics on-line...I think it is about right for my needs; and as mentioned earlier, have two weeks to change my mind.

I know the Mk 2 is considered the better lens, but my thinking is I could get another different FL Mk1 (say 90mm) and still be less expensive than the Mk2. So as mentioned above.....bit of a dilemma.

Only you can gauge the value of sharpness vs $$$, but the v2 is sharper than the v1 and has less coma and has more functionality. I expect that the effects of the shift will be more more valuable than sharpness, but the v2 and the v1 were designed in the world of 24mpx camera's - if you are fussy I would buy the v2. The TS90 is so much different than TS24 for usage - miniaturisation or very narrow field of view vs perspective correction.. If I was saving for a lens it would be for the laowa 15 shift or the TS17 - rather than the ts90, but I am focussed on landscape.

The original TS-E 24mm was designed while the Soviet Union still existed. Sure, the 1979 Leica Summicron 50 R is still a fantastic lens even today, but Canon isn't usually so exacting.

As Scott and others above have said, the TS-E 24mm II is a superior lens, optically and mechanically - you can rotate the axes independently.

In the grand scheme of things, is the price difference between the to used lenses so high that you're willing to buy the "duller" tool?

I used to have both, for different purposes: the 24 (and 17) for my work for NASA, where I wanted straight lines and usually had hours of time to set up. That's about the only thing I did with the TSE: straight lines in architecture. The 11-24 did everything else, including lots of city shooting where straight lines weren't imperative, or it was acceptable to straighten them later in LR.

Divested from the TSE lenses and replaced the 11-24 with the 10-20.

How do you like the 10-20? I looked at TDP distortion charts https://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Lens-Distortion.aspx?Lens=1668 and I don't quite get it - does it cover what it promises at 10mm? Does it always require software corrections?
I had the 11-24 but sold it in 2018 because I quit using UWA. Now I learnt a little bit about principles of the UWA composition and looking to purchase something ultra wide again. It'll be either the RF10-20 or the 12-24GM. 10mm sounds really exciting but I'm not sure what to think about IQ / distortions.

I love it. It's a huge step up from the 11-24 for sure, in every regard. I just can't find enough opportunities to use it Maybe next week in Singapore, and then in Japan. It's definitely in my bag.

I have all the original TS-E lenses plus the 17. The 24 and 45 have noticeable CA but modern software will eliminate it. I have used the 24 v2 a fair amount and it is a sharper, higher contrast lens. Great for pixel peeping in comparison to the v1, but whether it will benefit you will depend somewhat on the typical final uses of the photos.

Regarding the 90 v1: it's true that as focal length increases, tilt becomes more important/functional because of how it can effectively control depth of field by tilting the plane of focus, particularly at close distances where simply stopping down might not cover the depth you require. But some of that usefulness has been offset by modern solutions such as focus bracketing and compositing multiple images in software. I have used shift with the 90, but more to finalize composition once the camera has been locked down on the tripod. That said, it can still be useful for typical architectural perspective corrections, etc.

My ultimate aim is to sell prints (A2 /A3 size) of the area of the UK I live in....and that will include seascape and cityscape. Maybe some local architectual gems (Canterbury is just round the corner). Also..maybe some interesting figure studies (I was once an artist of sorts). As such I might need great detail at times but not always; but I also intend using film...35 mm with the tilt/shift.

I bought a Bronica GS system for this purpose ...the tilt / shift idea was to add something different into the visual mix. I mainly shoot / print B+W.

All things considered, the mk1 might do the trick.
