For portrait work the difference between an 85mm 1.2 and a 85mm 1.4 is as obvious IMO as the difference between using a 70-200mm 2.8 at the long end and a 200mm f2 prime. Substantial difference IMO. The bokeh characteristics, 3D pop or whatever you want to call it are just on another level. From my experience there are a handful of lenses (85mm f1.2, 105mm f1.4, 135mm f1.8, 200mm f2) that are just head and shoulders above the rest for portraiture. Never met an 85mm 1.4 that I didn’t like but never met one that wowed me. Currently have a Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN in my bag which is a VERY VERY good lens but along the same lines as the many many other 85mm 1.4's I've owned over the years when it comes to the "look" it produces. On the other hand I’ve never met an 85mm 1.2 that didn’t wow me no matter how heavy or slow to focus for portrait type work. You can do great portrait work with an 85mm 1.4 and most clients will be more than pleased but I think the "super fast" primes can take your work to another level that will help separate you from the crowd.
