I just had my first full weekend of shooting with the R5 II and one thing I noticed that is significantly different from my original R5 and R6 II is how easily light will "leak" onto the EVF image and cause glare. It seems to be a result of the larger eye cup needed for Eye Control AF. I found that when shooting in bright conditions I often had to hold the camera with only my right hand and cup it with my left hand to reduce the glare. Would the Canon Eyecup ER-kE be a solution?

For $60 I would hope so!

Looks like it may be inconvenient to use due to having to rotate it for portrait/landscape shots?

We'll have to wait for someone who has one to reply. I haven't run across any formal reviews on this.

I don't know if it's just me but the R5ii eye cup is very uncomfortable compared the the 1d and R3 which is much softer, especially wearing glasses. Can't wait to buy another overpriced accessory for R5ii.

Interesting- I didn't notice any Flare when shooting in the sun this weekend but maybe it wasn't hitting me right.

Was the sun at your back?

Yes, it was at my back or at a slight angle to that and it happened on a number of occasions. I found one other tech reviewer who noted the same in sunny conditions. I can't remember this happening with my R5 or R6 II which is why I think the eye cup is the culprit.

I noticed the same for the optional eye cup that you need to rotate it for portrait use. That extra step could dissuade me given how often I switch.

Hard to believe they would make something you have to switch but they are doing a lot of hard to believe things.

FWIW, I purchased the ER-hE eye cup for my R3 because I hate the eyecups that come standard on Canon cameras, and the R3 is no exception. I don't find rotating it for portrait use to be a problem (and you can shoot portrait without rotating it if you're in a hurry), but the bigger issue for me is that it blocks flipping out the screen. For that reason, I only use the ER-hE when I'm shooting in bright sunlight.
