Hi,
I’m new and I hope I’m not doing something wrong.
I’ve been shooting my kids high school football games and after getting everything unpacked and making it through my first game this year, I realized something. I usually start out the evening with a 100-400 while I have plenty of light, at the half, I usually swap over to a 70-200 2.8 and I finally noticed that I much prefer the zoom ring placement on the 70-200. I’m not sure if it’s being out of practice or what, but the ring just lines up perfectly with my thumb and on the 100-400 I keep grabbing the focus. Are there any other of the Canon EF zooms that share the zoom ring placement with the 70-200? I’ve been tempted to try an old 35-350 to try push pull, I haven’t done that in years…
Thanks for the link to the master list, that’s handy and I’ve never come across it before. It makes me want to eyeball a 24-105, it looks like it has the zoom ring closest to the camera…
My games are in SE Wisconsin, they usually start in the early evening, maybe around 530, and all of the fields have at least some kind of lighting. Early in the season the light is still pretty good throughout the game, later on in the season, it’ll be dark by half time. My main body is a 1dx mk2 and I have a 1d mk3 as a backup. I usually start out the night with a 100-400 on the dx and the 70-200 on the 1d. At halftime i switch the 70-200 over to the dx and then put a 300 on the 1d. I really like the 1d chassis, I started with a 1N RS, and then ran through a few digital rebels when I wasn’t sure about digital yet.
Sorry I don’t have enough posts to reply, so I put the replies here.
