R5II FTP Workflow

How do you guys transfer images from the camera to your FTP server?
I still can't figure out how to properly use the FTP feature, and I have doubts it's actually usable.

On my A9III I can tell the camera to transfer all "starred" images from today. It takes me a few button pushes.
On the R5II I can't find a way to do this. The camera offers to manually select each file which is a tremendous pain. I don't want to transfer a few thousands photos that are currently on my card either.
What am I missing?

I don't own the camera but I just carefully read through the manual and don't see any function to selectively transfer images based on rating. I also checked for some back-door ways, for example if the camera had a way to transfer rated images to a separate folder, which you could then use the FTP's transfer folder function. Couldn't find any solution to help you.

On the previous Canon models I had to change the rating feature to the protect images feature so I can easily protect (tag) photos. I don't want the images star rated. When I tag images for FTP transfer, I go to Image sel./transfer screen -> Select folder -> Sel img not transfer. (Protect only). That will select all unsent protected images in the selected folder and then the tagged images will transfer to the FTP server. I haven't used the R5II but it should be the same as the R3, R5, 1Dx III series cameras I use.

Here is a link to the networking features in the manual: https://cam.start.canon/en/C017/manual/html/UG-06_Network_0060.html

You can not use the Rate button, set to star ratings or protect, to tag images to send via FTP (that would be a too logical way to do it - Canon, are you listening!!

On the R6 Mark II you have to go into the FTP menu, "Transfer images to FTP server">"Image sel./transfer">"Sel. Image and check mark the images you want to FTP. Cludgy, slow and stupid.

Yes you can. See my previous post. Also, you can program the “set” button for quick transfers in the FTP menu. When the Set button is setup, you can review images on the screen and hit the Set button to initiate a transfer.

I stand corrected. I've had these cameras for over a year and never discovered that. Canon's instructions are not the greatest. I knew about using the Set button to FTP but doing it that way would not work in my situation, I am not always connected to the internet.

Just got the A9iii and will be setting up FTP on it. I've set it up previously on my R3 and also on my A9. I hit the set button on either one while scrolling through images and then they are sent through FTP.

What you've described sounds great. However, I'm wondering how there is a way around the following: You're shooting a game and you need to send photos out relatively quickly during the game. You star a bunch of images and then send them. Now you keep shooting the game and star more images. Will the A9iii now only send the newly starred images in your next FTP?

Thank you for the suggestion, but I didn't quite get it. I only can select a range of images or individual images to transfer. I don't see where I can transfer the protected images only.
Here's the manual just in case: https://cam.start.canon/en/C017/manual/html/UG-06_Network_0060.html (Transferring Multiple Images at Once)

Yes, it can send the rated images that weren't previously sent. Every sent image is being tracked.

Thanks! I'll have to take a look at how to do that.
