I find that rarely shoot longer than 50 mm anymore, interested in people’s recommendation for some great portrait lenses in the 50 mm range. Will be shot mostly from WO to F2.8
Can be ancient but new, AF or MF, DSLR or RF or ILC. Will be shooting on a7x line.
And, no interest in the 50/1.2 or 1.4 GMs, the ZA 55 or ZA 50/1.4 (e-mount).
There are a lot of lenses that fit this bill. I know you have used a Minolta Rocker 58 f/1.2 and that is a good choice, but I have also had the Canon FD 55 f/1.2 Asph with the hand polished aspherical and I actually slightly preferred the Canon FD Asph.
There are many choices, however. I am still a big fan of the Leica 50 f/1.4 Asph even though I no longer have that lens. It had a lovely balance of attributes.
I have always wanted to try the Leica R 50 f/1.4 with the 60mm filter threads (I had the version with the 55mm filter threads and didn't find it that special), and the Nikon 58 f/1.2 Noct Nikkor, but have never used them. There is also the Contax C/Y 55 f/1.2 that looks intriguing, but I have never even seen pictures from that lens. I did have the Otus 55 f/1.4 for a time and it was better than I expected it to be, but it was just so damn big I didn't use it that much.
Those are my thoughts for now, I also think you are a wonderful judge of lenses, so I would love to hear what you decide in the end and what you think of the various lenses. I am sorry if the Sony/Zeiss 50 f/1.4 ZA I sold you put you off that lens. It is rather large, but I always liked it.
