I own one now, and it's a fine piece of hardware. It's much lighter, but just as rigid as the metal versions. I use it with several C-F tripods and an aluminum Gitzo GT1540 Mountaineer. This combination is as light and sturdy as I could hope.

I know that there are others out there far more expensive, but this one works well for me.

Controls are very smooth, and the knobs lock up tightly without jamming or resorting to over-tightening.
