Finally did it, took a long time waiting patiently..
The missing M200 arrived yesterday and with it the completion of the M system inventory. phew !!

I now have the entire M catalogue minus a few white models - but will hopefully add them as and when they pop up.
All the M series bodies plus all the M lenses plus a few duplicates, also a lot of 3rd parties like the Sigma 1.4 trio (16,30 & 56), the Laowa 9mm, plus it’s 4mm fisheye brother
A whole raft of 7artisans and TTartisans.

The last piece the M200 took forever as prices have been climbing on used items (all of my collection was bought mint, boxed, used)

I have two M50 bodies so tend to use one the rest not used so much..if ever.

Funnily enough the R replacement for the M line up doesn’t interest me in the slightest.

I had an M50 I loved. Got a screaming deal on an M6II so traded it. Love the M6II as well, but liked the M50 body better. I did have the M6II full spectrum modified. Now use it mainly for IR stuff, which is quite fun.

I still think the M was discontinued too soon
It’s a fantastic system
My M50 that I actually use is coupled to a industar 50mm 3.5 via m42 adapter. I love the look it gives…especially mono, the images are not as clinically sharp as the modern lenses I have, but it is sharp if that makes sense?
The best bit is with both eyes open the view through the EVF perfectly matches the view with my open left eye…perfectly. Hence I can “see” what will work even before I raise my camera.

I really really wish canon had kept the M system going, I so wanted a M7 to follow in the rugged footsteps of the 7d/7dii. A beefed up weather sealed M50 with the sensor and AF of the M6ii 💕💕

I would have paid silly money for that.

I’ve just sorted out the M system into 2 separate clear plastic boxes. In one
There’s:-
M
M2
M10
M3
M5
M6
M100
M50
M50ii
M6ii
M200

Plus both versions of the add on EVF(DC1 & DC2)

Plus the entire M lens line up:-
18-55 x2
55-200
11-22
22 x3
28
32
18-150
15-45 x3

The second box is full of 3rd party EF-m lenses, plus ef-efm adapters, speedboosters, lots of various mount adapters, cages, leather half cases, batteries etc etc

In short the entire archive of the canon M timeline in two medium sized boxes complete with a dozen or so sachets of silica gel. All the original boxes are stored in the loft

A beautifully built small and utterly delightful camera system.

Such a shame.. 😔

I also have an M system. I have mostly Canon glass, but also have the Sigma 16 and 56, Rokinon 12, and a couple Chinese fisheyes. I didn't see the point in getting the Sigma 30, as the Canon 32 f/1.4 is the best normal lens I've ever used on any mount.

I have three bodies: A black M50, a white M50, and a "silver" M6 mk II (really black with silver trim), with the EVF.

My goal with the M system was literally to be able to fit everything in one reasonable-size bag that I can just grab and go when I don't have the time to sort through my mountains of EF and R gear, and/or don't want to have to carry 30+ pounds of stuff.

I have (unfortunately) exceeded that target with my acquisition of the M6 II, which came with a 15-45. I'm not a fan of that lens, preferring the older 18-55. The Sigma 16 is also a problem with respect to space in the bag; it's the biggest EF-M mount lens I own. It's an excellent lens but including it in the bag means leaving two others home.

I'm going to have to get this sorted soon, as I'm firm in my belief that this entire system needs to be in one bag. I will probably sell the black M50, Sigma 16, and the spare 15-45 that came with the M6 II body shortly.

ETA: I also have an ancient Olympus Zuiko 85 f/2.0 lens on an OM to EF-M adapter, which I find works very well on the M bodies. It doesn't live in the aforementioned "EOS-M" camera bag, but I toss it in there when I anticipate a need for focal lengths longer than 56 mm and don't want to be shooting at f/5.6 or slower. It's incredible how small it is, considering the focal length, aperture, and the fact that it throws a full-frame image circle. (Or from the perspective of me in my Olympus OM days, it's crazy how large new lenses are.)

I had an M system—M3 and M6—with a fleet of Canon and Sigma lenses. They were nice for travel and casino nights due to the petite form. I really liked the tilting EVF (not the lag tho'). But I struggled with the tiny controls and video features and quality was poor. Once the APS-C R series came out I switched. Almost as small but the controls are easier to use, AF a whole level better—good enough to track butterflies and birds—and 4K video is amazing.

Cool stories 👍🏻

I intended to do as both of you, create a small yet capable grab’n’go anywhere kit. Originally I paired the 22 with the 18-150, then updated the firmware on the 55-200 and couldn’t believe the difference it made. So the 55-200 plus the 22 became my kit. Then wanted wider hence the 11-22, then wanted a fast prime ……32mm , I’ll never forget how that lens floored me on the M6ii wide open, I didn’t think that kind of sharpness existed, after that I decided to just pick up the bargains that presented themselves.
I totally agree with the comment on the sigma 16/1.4 just too big tbh. Grabbed the TTartisans 17/1.4 for £50 😂 a fraction of the size and weight of the 16, maybe not as tack sharp, but it’s sharp enough to use. Isn’t that what matters?
I know the M6ii is supposedly the flagship but personally I like the M50 more.

But biggest surprise for me is the humble industar 50mm 3.5, whether I just fell lucky and got a good copy I honestly don’t know, but there’s just something about how it renders the pictures. I can’t explain it? But they are simply nicer (to me anyway)

I’m now toying with the idea of picking up the Sima Art 18-35 1.8. I hear it’s supposedly fairly good. Tho, I have read on DSLR’s the focus accuracy can be hit and miss, assuming mirrorless will be super accurate??

No. I rarely use it. I prefer the EF-S 55-250 IS STM, but the EF-M 55-200 is excellently-small. Does the FW update do good things?

I liked the M6II - fun camera, nice and small yet fast. The M5 disappointed me a little because its face AF would usually focus on the ears rather than eyes. I agree Canon could have done more with the M line. More small prime lenses like the 22/2, 32/1.4, etc. The new RF 28/2.8 probably could have been adapted. Plus a 62.5/1.4 or f/2.

It sounds impossible but before I upgraded the firmware the lens wasn’t particularly sharp, hence I shot with the 18-150. I then read on a different forum that the new firmware actually improved it!! I thought that’s impossible that a firmware could improve it optically - but there was no denying the images were much much better. I’m reluctant to say sharper for fear of sounding a fool. But they did !! If it’s any excuse I only shoot jpegs so maybe the lens profiles were artificially helping??

Regardless, once I upped the firmware I put the 18-150 back in the cupboard 😂

I too have the ef-s 55-250 is stm ..
Actually that was another OCD episode, I collected EVERY version of the EF-s STM plus the EF STM releases too 🫣

The STM 55-250 is amazing for what it cost and yes, maybe longer reaching and a little sharper plus faster @ 5.6 as opposed to 6.3…BUT it’s way bigger proportion wise. Almost double! Whereas the dinky 55-200 is tiny in comparison, almost pocketable (jacket wise)

During those final years before moving to the R stuff canon released some great stuff, the STM were cheap, light and great optically and for the price superb value

I confess I haven’t used the M5 much, if at all besides checking it worked. The rear screen made me so paranoid about scratches even though I put screen protectors on everything. I confess up until 2wks ago every camera I owned had the articulated screen turned in permanently. I then 2wks ago started out of the blue using the touch to drag option whilst using the EVF, now I can’t believe I didn’t use it before 😂

I only have 2 cameras out at present, the M50 and the RP/28 both have their screens turned out…when I’m using then.

Guess I’m a little slow on the uptake 😂

RE: 62.5/1.4…
Or even a 75/1.4… OMG 😶 maybe a fast 21 too to the same optical standard as the 32/1.4

Can you imagine that!! 😂 that would have upset so many Fuji/Sony/Leica fan boys

The M line was to me reminiscent of the early Olympus OM system, I had a FULL system back in the day 😎👍🏻, small almost jewel like quality. Had they (canon) built the M bodies in the retro guise as those early OM’s and recent Fuji’s I reckon the M line would have taken a totally different path

You are so right about those dinky OM Zuiko’s
Can’t believe I forgot about the 85. Tiny!!! And yet still covered a full frame 35mm. What the hell happened!!
I have both the USM 85/1.8 & 100/2 and for a brief while did try to incorporate them into my daily kit, but for some reason I couldn’t gel, I think the silly MFD was the root cause, missed so many opportunities, I stopped carrying them.

BTW
Have you seen the Pentax 70mm for aps-c
Ha Ha, OMG, SMALL is the word!! It’s crazy how they managed to engineer that lens. I’m so tempted to pick up the K3iii just to utilise that stunning 70mm marvel, remember that’s equivalent to 105mm on FF and it’s the size of a pancake. Unbelievable!! Why does canon have to make everything so big and bulky, don’t they realise it’s really off putting to a lot of people who really don’t want to be laden down with kit.

I’m intrigued by the M6ii. Does it suffer from bad shutter shock some people reported in forums and Reddit a few years ago?

Personally not something I noticed, travelled recently with it to Seoul. 22/2, 32/1.4, no real problem.

I bought an M/22mm kit at the base exchange in Korea for $199 back in 2013/14 to try it out. It was absymally slow, but a fun camera that made wonderful images.

I've had more M2's than I can count, and really liked that camera.

I've moved on to the R system, and I'm quite happy with it, but will be a lot happier when they bring a RF-S 22/2 for my R7 and R50. I would also like an R150(?) in the formfactor of the M2, with the sensor of the R50.... Absolutely tiny, good sensor, low cost. Heck, just give me an R100 with the EVF and grip chopped off. Would be cheap and fun, so long as they bring that 22/2!!!

I would love to see a photo of your M collection!

The M2 is really nice, I much prefer the softer rounded edges, but the M10,M100 and M200 have boxy square edges that are quite uncomfortable to grip and hold.

Yes, I suspect there are many R users waiting for the 22/2 and no doubt the stunning 32/1.4

As for photos?? I’d love to post pictures here but the subscription fee is too much for me.

I have not noticed any "shutter shock"
