I'm in the market for a couple lenses that I'm having a hard time finding a good deal on.

I've had a lot of success on the For Sale forums on this site, but I'd like to start parsing some other options.

Other than Ebay and Mercari, does anybody know of any sites to shop for used lenses from private sellers?

Almost every other photo enthusiast site

If you are going to do eBay then might as well do mpb, the used section of B&H and Adorama, etc. Esp with mpb prices are often competitive with eBay and you pay sales tax at both places.

I can feel your pain. Live on OR for 14 years. No sales tax but the state income tax makes CA feel more like TX. The most annoying thing is that you get taxed on savings not just spend.

Anyhow, if you are in OR then not sure why you focus on buying from individuals rather than total price.

There are times when used lenses can be found on Amazon, but listed as "used". I just bought a lens this way, from a Camera Store in California through Amazon. They posted a very detailed description and condition of it, so I liked the price and ordered it. When it came it was packed far better than I've received new lenses, and it was in considerably better condition than I was expecting, after reading what they had said about it. I had been a bit worried about making this decision, but I was very excited when I saw it with my own eyes. Again, way better than I was expecting.

Oh, I certainly do focus on buying on total price. My point about wanting to buy from "individuals" is that 1) you can usually get a lens of similar quality for less money, and 2) individuals often know at least something about the history of the lens.

That said, I have no opposition to buying a lens from a store.
