They are highly unlikely to offer any sort of discount to a newly released model. They can't fill demand at their suggested retail price. Why would they create more of a backlog by offering a lower price to some sources?

I agree generally with Charlie. It will be hard to get your hands on one to begin with since some are opting for it over the R1 likely. If you are not in line you may be able to find one at smaller dealers once they start getting delivered. I saw at least one ad on a Facebook Canon site where a person offered two. It's possible you may be able to find a place that is not required to apply sales tax but it's not going to be discounted for a while.

While Canon won't have any specials, IMO the R5II is well overpriced relative to the competition, so it won't be long before they show up below list..including the above.

Original 5D $3300, 5DsR $3900, so it's in line and maybe even less comoared to the 5D cameras once you factor in inflation since 2015 on the 5DsR. Z8 still $3800

While I agree it is overpriced compared to competition (Z8 currently $500 off and some are getting it around ~$3.1k), canon holds their prices unless there is significant oversupply, which looks like would not be the case for R5II at least for a bit. Plus, almost everyone I know who was on R3 waiting for an R1, is choosing R5II over R1 for wildlife, so there is that.

Man, they got new stock fast. It must've been at their door steps. I hope they get some more batteries just as quickly. I think I may buy 2 more so I can always have set on the ready for the grip. Adorama still shows these items on backorder.

Normally I’d argue that canon prices on newly released cameras are likely to hold steady for at least a year. That said, it’s remarkable to me that the R5II is currently in stock on launch month at Amazon and BH photo. This seems to indicate that either canon did a better job with the initial supply (hahaha unlikely) or that there is not as much demand for this camera as their previous version that was sold out for months. I suspect you might see discounts sometime in 2025 if this remains the case in order to adjust to market conditions.

I personally don’t see anything of substantial benefit to me in the R5II and will likely hold the course with my R5 as I don’t have any problems with its focusing system, viewfinder, or FPS.

B&H is out of stock again. We'll see how long this lasts. I would expect them to be bought up soon and hard to find.
