Like I said, times have changed since I lived and worked in Germany and not for the better.

Think of Leica as a typical French marriage. The wife (Leica) cannot be relied upon to be available to satisfy your needs all the time. You need a girlfriend (non-Leica).

So we can all bitch and complain about repair times, it sucks-

Go buy a new Nikon or Sony- and send it in for repairs 2 1/2 years after you bought it-

Its not under warranty, your Leica is.

Does it even matter if it takes a year to get it repaired? Might as well not have a warranty, because you'd need to get another camera to make up for the one that's being repaired. I'd rather have a 1 year warranty on a camera I can actually get repaired than a 5 year warranty that takes a year to fulfill obligations on if it breaks.

I’m thinking if my girlfriend should be a Nikon Zf.

+1. Same from my experience with extended warranties - you hardly ever use them. If something breaks with some equipment/tools, it happens most often directly after purchase due to a manufacturing issue. I would expect the same to be true for cameras - most will show a potential issue directly or soon after purchase.

Well this is interesting. How can they possibly reconcile this? 2 day service guarantee when Leica does it in 12 months! The fine print says this is for when the mfg warranty expires, but still.

Hmm, maybe Leica's complete indifference to its customers is the opening that Pixii needs.

Somebody recently reported on LUF that he was told by Leica that the average repair time for an S lens (in his case the S35) in Germany was 9 months. Totally unacceptable in my opinion.

In the case of paying a premium for Leica-- this seems totally unacceptable. By the time you get it back- the next model might be out

However Swiss watch repairs are in the same category in terms of time for repair-- sometimes taking almost a year

They probably can't. Either they use a repair shop that isn't Leica or they don't honor that 2 day service guarantee. They probably don't have a huge amount of Leica customers where this is a huge issue for them.

I will also try a PIXII max and if 2 are needed then it's 2 for the price of one Leica Mxx. Also debating about not getting a second SL3 in order to try the 60MP Panasonic next year.

Like was said-reputation and revenue drove Leica to fix the SL3 issue rapidly-in this case about 3-4 months.

9 weeks is unacceptable. 9 months is a middle finger to their customers.

If Nikon/Canon/Fuji can repair gear in a week or two, Leica who prides themselves in exceptionalism, should do better than them.

Make no mistake about this. It is a calculated choice by Leica to save money and pad their bottom line to the known detriment of their customers. It is a manageable problem. Leica just chooses not to spend the needed resources to make sure their customer is well taken care of.

This is my biggest complaint about how Leica operates. There is zero excuse. Either repair in a reasonable time frame, or replace the product with a new one.

Let’s all email Leica and ask why- I’m gonna send a note- I agree that length of time is ridiculous.

I don’t think they will care as long as people keep buying their gear at already insanely high prices.

I've so nearly clicked on 'add to basket' in recent months but something has held me back. And now this.

They'll certainly not be getting my business for the foreseeable future and this coming from a former fully committed user.

Sad times, indeed.

Leica Camera's cost cutting shows its ugly side now. Someone in the company got a checkmark in their goal review to streamline and cut cost. And many suffer from this, but this is not taken into account - yet.

Just took a look on LUF and there is no mention of this issue. Wonder if Leica discourages posts that are negative to the company.

I stopped visiting l-camera-forum after they deleted my posts talking about my new M6 scratching film.
