This is now completely ridiculous.

FYI if you are in California you can use the Lemon Law to get a refund on your gear if it is under warranty. It does not just apply to cars in California.

Nikon has repaired stuff for me in three days. And still does.

Same in Oz. Consumer has right to choose exchange ,repair , or refund for unreasonable repair times. But only for locally purchased stock.

He reviews a lot of gear, not just Leica.

If you write it, it must be true. Just like those cute hand signed QC cards they pack with their gear.

Actually I just realized what this statement means. The DEALERS do give excellent service. They however have no control over what happens when stuff is sent to Leica for service.
But Leica instead of fixing issues on their end, relies on their dealers to be polite, thoughtful, understanding and sympathetic to customer complaints without actually being able to do anything about it.

"Sorry Sir, yes that's quite awful, I agree, that is most unfortunate, yes it really shouldn't do that, of course we will send it to Leica don't worry about that, how long do we think it will take? well let us see but would you like a cappuccino and have you seen our new leather and silk camera straps?"

Which is exactly why I bought a Zf over an SL camera this time.

Maybe we’ve just been reading the warranty the wrong way and the length of the warranty is actually the length of the repair time.

Go buy a new Nikon or Sony- and send it in for repairs 2 1/2 years after you bought it-

Its not under warranty, your Leica is.

At this point they really should provide loaner bodies/lenses while you wait for service like the nicer car dealerships do.

Time is money, though. Cheaper to pay out of pocket and get my gear back in three days. And after Leica warranty is up, you have to pay AND wait.

These threads always serve as a mechanism to reveal those here that suffer from Leica-induced Stockholm Syndrome, or in the very least, victims of Leica-induced sunk-cost-fallacy.

How can ANYONE defend this company at this point in time?

2 years and half? None would still be under guarantee...

Leica Switzerland did in my case, I have a loaner SL2-S while mine is away...

To be fair, I have sent my Leica M10 for service twice and my SL2s once, and each time I have received it back within three weeks.

One of the times, the camera was out of warranty, and it was still repaired free of charge. Perhaps I have just been lucky.

It's too bad Leica did away with the "Passport Warranty", which used to also cover accidental damage. If they reinstitute that plus shorten their repair turn-around to 30-60 days, then that would at least feel acceptable, at least to me. I feel like that accidental damage coverage would make up for the fact that they'll never be able to match Canon/Nikon turn-around times of just a few days.

It’s definitely been a long wait for service. I’m starting to wonder if the M11 series issues are causing delays. My M-D has been in Germany for quite some time, and I doubt I’ll see it this year.

Leica USA is generally faster, but if the gear needs to be sent to the factory, be prepared for some frustration.

Maybe so, but after you get it back the warranty has expired while at Leica waiting for its repair.

If one buys Leica be prepared to own 2 (at least of each model) M so that if one must go to Germany for repair you still have a second camera to use.

I am not kidding here, but getting an M11 costs $18k and the M11M costs $18.4K since one needs 2 bodies for M purchases.

This is why I have branched out in the last 4-5 years and now own other brands which in my case perform perfectly right out of the box. So with those brands I have been able to get away with one model instead of the Leica owing model of purchasing 2 bodies for each M model. That said I still have only one Q3 and one SL3 (along with a SL2-S).
